Gary, there are Egyptian murals on the side walls at the front of the auditoriums. They’re exactly the same on both walls (mirrored on opposite walls). Not sure if they’ve been placed in all of the auditoriums though.

Giles, the closest Muvico theatres to the DC area are planned for Fredericksburg, VA (Spotsylvania Towne Centre) and East Rutherford, NJ (Meadowlands Xanadu).

This megaplex is split into two halves. The left side houses auditoriums #1-12 and the right side houses auditoriums #13-24.

I have only been in two of the four largest auditoriums, #13 and #14, which are on the right side of the plex and adjacent to each other. The screen in #23 is quite small for the auditorium’s size and will require you to sit closer to the front for best sightlines. Also, the screen in #18 is not a wall to wall screen. So if you are seeing a 3D movie, be sure to get a seat closer to the front for best viewing experience.

Valet parking is available on weekends and holidays. However, I do not how much it costs, as I’ve never used the service before.

Jodar, I believe only the upcoming Muvico theaters will be getting the Sony 4K projectors—at least initially.

This theater debuted one of the first RealD digital 3D systems in Maryland (along with Bow Tie Annapolis Mall 11, which was owned by Crown Theatres at the time) when they showed Chicken Little in 2005.

Correction on AMC Columbia 14: theater #1 is still closed/under construction. My previous post was based on assumption. It is still blocked off by a large Hancock cardboard display with an IMAX banner hanging above the theater. Any news on Hoffman Center and Potomac Mills?

The IMAX theater (Theater #1) at AMC Columbia appears to be finished. However, no IMAX films are currently being shown.

MovieTickets.com shows Kung Fu Panda being shown in DP (again after WALL-E replaced it last week) today and tomorrow. Afterwards, it will be shown in standard 35 mm. The digital key probably expires after tomorrow, so they ended up having to use the film format for future dates. WALL-E continues to be shown in DP with the old DLP projector in #14.

The installations are IMAX Digital Projection (using DLP projectors). I wonder why White Marsh is opening in October, while the other local AMC Theatres are opening in July. Like Jodar, I’d rather go there than Columbia.

Maybe I should have just gone there in the first place. It’s been a while since I’ve watched a movie there. After dinner, the last two DLP shows were no longer grayed out on MovieTickets.com – not like they were before I left this morning. So it appears they have fixed the projector.

Theatre #1 is now blocked off/closed and under construction for IMAX. Planned to see WALL-E in DLP but was told that the projector was broken. Ended up seeing WALL-E in #2 (one of the large theaters), which was packed.

There was no construction and all screens were being used. I did notice that they added 2 back surrounds in #14 where the DLP digital cinema system is installed. The speakers are larger than the side surrounds and were used during Kung Fu Panda. When I saw Iron Man in DLP format a month ago, they were not there. Since the digital IMAX system utilizes DLP projection, I’m guessing it will be in that auditorium.

I just saw Kung Fu Panda in DLP here. I noticed that there is a banner hanging above the ticket counters that states “IMAX Coming Soon”. There are also IMAX posters in and around the theatre with the same “Coming Soon” message along with the AMC web site.
