Things are looking up. The dumpster is gone. They took down the South Bay signage, covered the side marquee, repaired all the exterior cracks and applied some sort of primer. There are a number of units being installed on the roof, presumably to heat/cool the projected five auditoriums in the first phase of the renovation. See photos uploaded.

Interior demolition has accelerated. There is now a chute from the building directly to a dumpster.

Can’t really see, Mike. Only a little over the top and they are behind a chain link fence.

What kind of stuff is in the dumpsters

The building materials are still on the roof and the cracks in the facade facing Montauk Highway have not been corrected. However, they have applied some sort of undercoating on some of the exterior walls, there are two dumpsters with stuff in them and one can see a pile of rubble through one of the windows.

They’ve stripped the exterior from the marquee and there are building materials on the roof but no other signs of activity since I passed in August.

Passed by a little while ago. Nothing seems to have changed. Figured out how they plan on going from 5 to 8 screens, assuming they ever get the 5 from the existing 3. They plan on taking over the building next door which houses the liquor store. When you look at the artists conception of the new South Bay you can see that. Incidentally there is also no new information on the Facebook page.

I stopped by on Monday afternoon July 23, 2018. There are fresh pigeons but no tradesmen’s vehicles and no tradesmen working. There is a building permit displayed. Has the renovation group abandoned the project? Anyone know?

Any work being done is on the inside. Seem to be more dumpsters.

Has the work stopped altogether? Or has more progress been made since June 17, 2018

Only visible signs on the exterior are a chain link fence surrounding the building and a couple of dumpsters. I would have thought the exterior might have needed some repair before addressing the interior.

The decay is progressing nicely. No signs of the renovation which was to be completed in 2017.

Looks worse each time I pass.

It would take a year to redo the theater in the image which appears in the photo section. There would be no point in redoing the inside until the integrity of the exterior is achieved.

We went to see “If it’s Tuesday it must be Belgum"at the Shouth Bay theater. My mother raved about it so much the manager gave us all free passes to see it again. It was a good movie ,part comedy, part romance, and part travel log. Alot of cameos and a great cast. Charlton Heston complained that they should have promoted his movie"Number One"at United Artist as much as "If it’s Tuesday it must be Belgum. Apparently his movie wasn’t "Number One” at the box office.
