Looks like I’m wrong….“The Corpse Bride” is not playing in Succasunna; just last week’s movies are still playing at this theatre, which will close next week until a month later for renovations (weather permitting)….the closest theatre I could think of is Parsippany and MOrristown and Chester. “Flightplan” is not playing there either….too bad. MIght go to Mansfield, but that’s too far away.
Last chance to see “Corpse Bride” in the theatre before shutting down…must see that movie before the plex closes….will miss Elizabethtown, Lord of War, and other good fall movies there until the holiday season, when giant gorillas, wizards, and magical lions come to the theatre!
November was the original target, but construction material delays will hold it up until December or later. The theatre is scheduled to be closed Sept 26 – Oct 27 so the bathrooms can be renovated. I can’t wait either!
I thought the theatre would reopen in November of this year; when will the theatre close for renovations? I can’t wait to check out the new and improved succasunna theatre since I would go to the more popular Parsipppany theatre (which is huge).
The Succasunna expansion broke ground in June 2005, and has a target completion date of December 2005. Clearview is adding 2 additional auditoriums with digital sound, adding a party/convention room, renovating and expanding the restrooms, rotating the box office 90 degrees so that it is indoors, expanding the lobby, adding a new marquee, and is eliminating the upstairs auditoriums. Once completed, this beloved local theatre will be even better (and should be able to compete with the proposed new Loews theatre going into the Rockaway Mall).
I went to see Must Love dogs in theatre 6, and although the auditorium had surround sound, the movie and the ads and trailers wasn’t in surround sound. The picture was OK. The movie ran a little late (previews included). But I got a freebie upon buying the tickets, a promotional CD for Old Navy’s back to school line-up. Maybe this is a promotion to get people back into the theatre during this slow and downtrend year? Most moviegoers at this theatre are kids and their families, and the two movies that are popular are Charlie and the CHocolate Factory and March of the Penguins. The latter movie is playing in one of the upper auditoriums, so I"ll wait for the dvd. As for the construction that’s going on by the cinema, are they building something? I would like to know, since that might be an extension of the theatre when it re-opens in the fall after a brief closing in October (according to a news release on Clearview’s website). I hope the revamped Succasunna Cinema will be better than its old self.
Just went to see “War of the Worlds” with my pal Jessica at this theater; noticed some construction near the building. The movie was at one of the digital audio auditoriums (theatre #1). I went there once before when I saw “Stuart Little 2”. The picture and sound were the best of all the auditoriums. I guess it was Dolby Digital sound in the auditiroum with 200 seats?

Important news on improvements to the popular theatre can be found at this URL! I googled the company name in the news section and after this improvement, this will make the moviegoing experience at this theatre the same as the mansfield theatre!
Is it the most popular of all the auditoriums? I’ve seen the biggest and smallest movies at that theatre in the multiplex (last one was “mr.and Mrs. Smith” and maybe “War of the Worlds” will play in there). Does this theatre have dolby digital surround ex (there are back speakers in addition to the side speakers and front) as well as dts-es?
Yes—it’s the largest. It used to be the right front orchestra section of the original Cinema 10 (when it was a single), and has ½ of the stage in it still. The backstage area is in tact behind the screen and is used for storage. If you look up at the top of the screen you can still see some of the original draperies that hung in the theatre.

MADISON – Clearview Cinema Group Inc. announced Monday that it has acquired two multiplex theaters from the Succasunna-based Nelson Ferman Theater organization for $19.5 million. The theaters, both in Morris County, are the Parsippany 12 at the Morris Hills Shopping Center in Parsippany and the Cinema 10 Theater in the Roxbury Mall in Succasunna.

Went to see Star Wars in theatre 5, the big loud auditorium with wrap around surround sound (i guess Dolby SR), which is good. It was almost sold out! Was this theatre in existence when the first star wars opened? The only theatre around this area was far away in paramus, which still draws crowds. It was also playing on a digital screen with dolby 5.1 sound and a RWC theatre with DTS sound. Still a good theatre. Next movie will be Mr. and Mrs. Smith!
The last time I went to this theatre, it was “Kingdom of Heaven” at auditorium 2, and the sound was great and the picture was decent. They even had rear window captioning in the back of the theater, which is nice for hard to read people. If I were to read them, I would bring a pocket mirror and hold it above the screen! THat’s only one of the innovations to this renovated plex, along with rocking chairs and digital sound. They should add TV screens like the Mansfield theatre, which isn’t listed as a Cinema Treasure but should be since it is one of my favorite theatres.

thanx for the info. i was going to call the theater and inquire myself. i remember the upstairs theaters were small and the ceilings were low. btw, that blockbuster was Atlantic Stationers until the mid-90s when it became blockbuster. if they are going to add an addition, it will be tough since there are wetlands behind it and parking in front. the only way to increase the square footage is to eliminate parking towards the front of the theater. to the left of it is impossible as that’s one of the main roads through the complex. i remember when the whole complex here was just the shop-rite and carters, jamesway, etc with the carnival originally held here before it moved to horseshoe lake. give it up for the sprawlmarts, not!
The theatre was opened by Walter Reade in the mid-1960’s as “Cinema 10”, a single screen, 1000-seat house. Nelson-Ferman, a local operator, took over the house soon thereafter and divided it into four auditoriums, the largest with 350 seats. A few years later, a new building was added, containing a small lobby, new restrooms, and two small houses upstairs. Originally, the two small houses were accessed by an outside door as they showed adult fare, while the four downstairs showed first-run films. That combo didn’t last long, and porno was moved over to Nelson-Ferman’s K Cinema in the K-Mart Plaza, about 5 miles east on Route 10 (now a Blockbuster Video Store). The Cinema 10 was then a six plex, and the outside entrance for the adult houses was bricked up as a new entryway was created inside. In 1990, another expansion brought a new facade, with a new lobby, new concession stand, and four additional auditoriums. Now the Cinema 10 really had 10 screens! Clearview Cinemas bought the interests of the Nelson-Ferman Organization a few years ago, and now operates this high-grossing plex, which was recently renovated. Plans are in the works to add an addition, while eliminating the two small houses upstairs.
