A quote from a June 1995 photo of a plaque on the building by John Lewis:
“PALACE THEATER

FOURTH MOVING PICTURE
THEATER IN THE NATION
OPERATED ON THIS SITE BY
R.L. BARNHART
AND HIS GRANSON
ROBERT KEASER
CHARLEROI AREA HISTORICAL SOCIETY”
MarkL, I waited four days and nothing was put down so I put something down. Notice I put a question mark down, just waiting for someone to come up with a better answer, which you did, thanks. What I put down is better than nothing which is exactly what my wife ssys about me. I do the best I can from Manteno, Illinois.
Anyone who is not happy with Mike Rivest’s site is welcome to start their own site and try to list all the theaters in the United States and Cananda with more accurate info. Please let me know and I’ll use that site instead of Mike’s.
If you click on the map all you will see is water (Broad Sound), enlarge it some and you will see a passenger aircraft, I thought that was sorta neat. Make the map smaller and aim for the red dot make it larger and you end up at Bass Point, I guess?
Sure could use an address, more info and more photos.
I found the Rio (AKA Xochil 1990) had an address of 516 Doherty Avenue??????
That’s all I could find out from here in Manteno, Illinois. Can anyone find out about these different names and the two locations? Also more info and photos.
To see a fairly present photo of the theater go Google Satellite Map Street Photo and move that Gold Guy down south to Advantage Insurance Group which is accross the street from the theater.
I enjoyed going to the website clicking on About Wheeler and clicking on History and read the whole history of Aspen and the theater, found it interesting.
Bad news, I’ve been concerned about this theater for over two years, what a shame! I hope it can still be saved. I hope someone can at least get some photos inside and out before it comes down.
