The bad part for me is I would see CLASH at the Chinese but have no interest in seeing it in 3D. I’m in the small minority these days who does not want to see 3D films. I am content seeing films in good old fashion 2D. So it looks like I will be seeing CLASH elsewhere.
Can we, at this point, take Mann Theatres entirely out of the conversations regarding this theatre (and the Westwood theatres, too)? They’re packing up and shipping out – so no more complaints about what they aren’t doing. B4 the year…if not the summer…is over, the place will probably be under new management.
How nice the interior mock up photo shot looked with the color lights in the ceiling. Have these color lights ever been put in or turned on? Mann Theatres needs to do what the Disney people are doing across the street and bring in movies with a stage show for the tourists. Show ‘Clash’ in 3-D on a big curved screen and have the Titans in person on stage. Mann has no showmanship so some other company needs to take over this Hollywood gem soon. The out of town people have the cash, they want to see the inside with a nice presentation.
Clash of the Titans in 3D at both and DBOX @ Chinese 6 opens April 1. It looks like they may be getting Repo Men and Diary of a Whimpy Kid next week. My Arclight e-mail did not list those as opening at Hollywood. But, 9 weeks for Eli is silly in the day and age.
well next week will be the 9th week for Book of Eli in Grauman’s. I liked Book of Eli, but a 9 week engagement in this day and age?
Avatar played in the Dome for 9 weeks, before moving aside for Shutter Island. But of course Avatar had a boxoffice run for the ages. I wonder if Eli will make it to 10 weeks in Grauman’s, LOL. I wonder what the last movie was that played 10 or more weeks in Grauman’s. Was it Titanic back in ‘97-'98?
I should add that the rendering comes from the last remodel and is not some future project.
The rendering linked previously is from a Canadian architectural design firm (Sceno Plus) that specializes in entertainment venues. They were commissioned to develop a remodel concept for the “VIP balcony”. It’s an architectual rendering (i.e. design concept) and not intended to be an exact or detailed depiction of the theatre.
And the Chinese has an aisle right down the center, which that mock up doesn’t.
If that ain’t the cheesiest fake interior shot ever! The people ain’t real & everybody (in LA) knows that the balcony has been walled up! VIP Balcony? LOL!
has anyone been to the Chinese recently? In the forecourt they usually have the poster of their next attraction.

BOOK OF ELI continues this next week, as we expected. My new guess is the next film that will be booked at this theater will be the next Denzel Washington film.
Well it’s only 13 more years till Sid’s original land lease is up. I believe the people holding the Village’s & Bruin’s leases have had them since the 50’s.
Everything for March 19, The Bounty Hunter, Greenberg, Diary of A Whimpy Kid, The Runaways, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo are opening at Arclight. The only film they do not list is Repo Men. Could the Chinese be getting a new movie? Is it a DBOX title? I know Mann does book Universal into the Chinese from time to time. Is it too much to ask for something new at the World’s Most Famous Movie Theatre?
It might still be there when the TCM Film Festival starts in April.

I believe Mann still owns the Chinese don’t they? They are trying to sell it, but I think they still own it. (CIM is currently the landowner and will become owner of the theater when the 99 year land lease that Sid Grauman took out expires several years from now. Mann never owned the Village or Bruin. They always had to lease those. In order for “you know who” to get the Chinese, they would have to actually buy it from Mann, instead of merely taking over a lease like they are doing in Westwood.
Is “you know who” getting Chinese just like they’re (allegedly) getting Village and (maybe) Bruin?
I saw that on Movietickets thing for the tour. Maybe they are going to stop showing films all together. ALL of next week’s new releases (March 12)Green Zone, She’s Out of My League, Remember Me and Our Family Wedding are opening at Arclight (tix for Midnight Shows now on sale). The Chinese has not had a new booking since January 15th with The Book of Eli. Seems funny they would start a Facebook page indeed.
they put the Chinese up for sale and are not renewing the leases on the Village and Bruin. Why start a Facebook page now? For the past couple of years they have been giving every indication they are getting out of this business. Weird.
Another weird thing. At movietickets they now list showtimes for the ‘Grauman’s Chinese Theatre Tour’.

I think it is obvious at this point that Mann does not care. They are slow closing shop all over Southern California. I’m curious to see if someone is getting ready to take over the lease, and they are just coasting.
The Crazies will be the next D-Box release. However, it looks to be playing as a moveover on the format as Arclight is selling tickets for it at midnight.
