With all the new technology in fiber optics I would think they could have had the twinkling stars re-created without the use of the old fashioned lightbulbs?
This August of 1958 ad for “The Fly' shows up what Warren said about the product split that happened because of the Merrick and Alden. All the RKO’s are getting the "The Fly” and “Space Master X-7” but because it is booked in the Merrick the Alden is holding over the previous weeks “The Light in the Forest” and “The Story of Perri”. When Loew’s State had “A” bookings the Embassy would get the spillover Paramount releases and even when they opened at Loew’s they would move to the Embassy when a new film replaced it. I believe “48 Hrs” opened at the Guild, it was a huge suprise hit that seemed to play forever that year. View link
Even in the 80’s good films had “legs”. In this ad the Cinemart is playing “An Officer & a Getleman” it was in it’s 31st week. It had played the Trylon for 27 weeks and then we got it along with the Arion. We played it for 6 weeks and still sold out on Saturday nights. At some point it also played the Haven and then the Drake. View link
What a beautiful auditorium. I wish you people good luck in your fight. What the heck is that other negative web site with the ugly pictures? This is how they want someone in New York to see Lombard? Trust me these people have more up their sleeves then worrying about their taxes going up a few dollars. This whole fight reeks of payola and payouts. If condos are built some of the loud mouths who want this great old theatre torn down are going to benefit from it. Call me a cynical New Yorker but I deal with vultures and thieves like you people every day. By the way does the web master of that other site use their real name?

This town is a trip boy I have not heard the expression “living in sin” since an old Lana Turner movie that probably played the Dupage.

I have been trying to stay out of all the fighting from the people of Lombard but to call the Dupage a decrepit old theatre is insulting to the people who are fighting so hard to save it. Maybe you were never a movie goer but I have wonderful memories of going to movies when I was growing up and most of them are in neighborhood houses. One of them the Trylon is also hanging by a thread and it saddens me that there is so little history for the future generations to enjoy. You can build all the mall multi-plexs you want but there is nothing like being able to sit back in a big single screen theatre and enjoy a great film. I know times change, but some of the past has to be preserved. Progress and modernization are not everything there also has to be art and humanity.
The Loew’s Jersey City was saved pretty late in the game. It was supposed to be torn down and replaced with an office building. I honestly never thought that it was going to be saved, but thank goodness it was. That theatre is going to be the focal point in a restored downtown area. With all the bickering on this site nobody even seems to mention any of their memories or happy times at the Dupage. What about the years the theatre spent as a triplex? Did people patronize it?
Does anyone remember that Twilight Zone episode about the small town called “The Monsters are Due on Maple Street”? Just cause a little doubt or suspicion and the whole town kills itself off one by one.
Those were pretty good size auditoriums as a five-plex. Anyone know why it did not do well? It closed quite a while before the Magic Johnson opened up.
March of 1955 the Capitol was playing Tyrone Power in “The Long Gray Line” while a few blocks away the Roxy had Mr. Power in “Untamed”. Almost 12,000 seats for him to fill :) View link

I agree to me the Loew’s is the perfect venue for classic Hollywood films.
Is this still the original Trans-Lux company? Nice to know they still have theatres.
