Why didn’t this theater show ET and Titanic during their runs? Those movies torched Star Wars as the top blockbusters of the 20th century!!!

Since Landmark is owned by 2929, they often show movies by Magnolia, Magnet, and 2929.

Dolby Cinema information can be found at https://www.dolby.com/us/en/platforms/dolby-cinema.html. AMC has it as an exclusive for its larger theaters, while their competition have Regal RPX, Cinemark XD, as well as Big D which AMC acquired from Carmike. Worldwide, there a few chains that have it according to the website. The dolby auditorium is a retrofitted screen with projection that is crisper and natural and brighter than a normal screen, reserved rumbling recliners, and Dolby Atmos surround sound. Upon entering the theater, a video wall featuring the upcoming movie awaits moviegoers on their way to the theater. Before the movie, a soundcheck trailer is shown informing the audience about the process. Much like THX, a person checks all the equipment and seating before each show to make sure that the presentation is top notch. My local AMC in Rockaway is getting it soon.

I went to see Guardians in 2d in one of the auditoriums that had a 3d dispenser for the glasses. The preshow was in the wrong aspect ratio but the feature was in the correct aspect ratio. As for the movie it was awesome and the visuals and audio were good. This movie will have legs. I went by theater #9 and they’re hard at work on the Dolby Cinema. There’s a sign that says coming soon dolby cinema at amc.

I learned about this theater by watching the documentary Out of Print on amazon prime. It’s pretty good.

Conan also played here nearly 35 years ago; it was the last major original blockbuster to be mixed in mono.

Nearly 35 years ago the John Carpenter remake of the Thing played here while Cinema 35 had E.T. and Stanley Warner had Blade Runner and Tron and Century had Rocky III.

Back then, most people would refer to this theater as the Century, while the theater on Route 4 was the Stanley Warner.

I heard that they’re building a mall on some vacant site on 17 to compete with the other malls in Paramus….will this mean another movie theater to go along with the AMC and the Regal to open next year?

moviebuff82 commented about AMC Rockaway Inner 6/Outer 6 on May 9, 2017 at 1:37 am

When did Star Wars A New Hope first play at the inners? I know when the outers opened they had a reissue of the original Star Wars in Dolby Stereo followed by Empire before Jedi came out, the latter would be shown again in 1985 before the special editions arrived in 1997 in digital surround sound. By 1998, the inners were closed, so Episode I and II played at the outers to moderate success. The last major blockbuster to play in the outers was Spider-Man before they shut their doors in June nearly 15 years ago. This left North Jersey with the AMC in Clifton Commons, Bridgewater, and Essex Green as the only AMCs in that area, with the AMC Empire 25 the closest and only true AMC theater in the NYC area.

http://variety.com/2017/film/news/amc-entertainment-2-1202418948/ it seems that AMC is moving in the right direction as they are renovating more theaters at a rapid pace from now until 2018.

According to Fandango it hasn’t been. Dolby Cinema has its own Facebook page where you can hear the latest news on openings. AMC is its biggest customer right now at the rate they’re opening the dolby cinemas. It’s not as big as IMAX, but it’s growing.

At one time RKO once owned the theater when they took over the venue from BS Moss before Cineplex Odeon closed it in the early 90s.

It didn’t play here in 70mm. Only in NYC, the ziegfield theater where it opened. It’s been ten years since the theater was demolished and became more parking. The first transformers movie, which was the 1986 cartoon, played here. If you count all the screens in paramus back then, that would be 16 screens.

moviebuff82 commented about AMC Loews Paramus Route 4 Tenplex on May 4, 2017 at 7:25 pm

For some time in 1983, the triplex showed the first two star wars movies from 1977 and 1980 while the then seven plex played return of the jedi on several screens. When it became a tenplex, Temple of Doom played on a couple of screens.
