Ed, don’t know if this helps…WRIV radio is 40 West Main
in the Landmark Bank Build….and I know the Suffolk is east of WRIV on the same side of the road and could not have an odd number address…
This may be a repeat of something I said but, the area left of the condo sign and to the right of vogue store was an alley that was the area where all the eastside of the Playhouse fire escapes and the apt. fire escapes would come together to take them to the street…under the stairs was a dumpster for apt. and Playhouse..the area was all open then…and store with the black sign 2nd from the left was the Playhouse entrance……more later..
The apts. you see on Middle Neck road are the same ones that have been there since 1923…they just fluffed them
up and called them condos…Ed that picture you took looking south…has always looked that way…the shorter of the three was back stage entrance that would take you to the dressing rooms and under the stage…more soon
It is still a triplex but when the last people wanted it to be some kind of multi- use they took the seats out of theatre 1 for live shows dance and party area..
2 has seats also balcony in best shape, they did a few plays there..New ac but, how it was explained to me was to get water from the underground stream and pulled up sand instead made a big mess in # 2…As far as the historical society…I don’t think they really care about the theatre…I go to the Islip street fair every year and when i ask them what are you doing to save the Islip? the guy said “there are many other theatres people can go to”..The small mom and pops around the town want the theatre….
I talked to Greg today, who is trying to lease Islip..
He knows about CT. He told me Clearview not interested..
So, if anyone knows someone who wants this theatre call 631 328 1020..
I talked to the agent for the theatre, John at 631 982 2100, He said “CVS deal dead in the water for now”…
If anyone knows anyone from Clearview, UA or private owners, give them the number above…
Ed, tried to e mail you some photos…. i tried that quan
somthing but it keeps returning it..please e mail me.
Also, next to my last comments April 27th and 29th it says (remove) whats that about?
thanks
ED:
Looking at the the condo entrance..there use to be an alley there for the Playhouse exits and there was also a door that lead to back stage…there was also a door that lead to the boiler room under the Playhouse Box office, it gave heat to both theatre and condos..
The strange roof top structure is a large fan that would pull the heat from the projection booth, there was no ac….the windows on the top belong to the booth…The windows above the garage were covered years ago on the 2nd floor…The exit doors where the garage entrance is now, to the left and right of the exits there was a stair
case on both sides that lead to 2nd. floor to balcony…more later!
I went by today….boat still on roof with we moved signs..also a sign said [available] 631 928 2100….yet on the other side same sign but had a [leased] over it…i will call today…i took pictures
will pick up today… would like to post if someone tells me how..
Mean time…where the screen would be is a large roll up door..
West side has big show case windows [ that could be bricked up]
Loge is still there..only thing missing, ticket both and snack bar..
oh yeah seats…
