“Curtains for Broadway: No Shows Until Labor Day, at Least.” That decision includes presentations at Radio City Music Hall and all of the city’s cinemas. New York Times article here
Nope.
They didn’t stay open after Broadway closed did they?
Closed until further notice due to the worldwide health emergency. Closing also affects management’s Beacon Theatre in NYC and Chicago Theatre in Chicago. Bulletin here
“Airport” opened its world premiere engagement here fifty years ago this month.
Riverdance is coming back for its 25th anniversary at this venue from March 10-15. Tickets are on sale now.

Yeah my wife has told me that too. Guess I missed the boat.
I wish I could get you up here. Security has gotten so strict here. We can’t bring anyone up to the booth anymore. I used to bring my kids in with me for the day. Not allowed anymore.
rcdt55b, I heard you met one of my projectionist partners a week or two ago at dolby. Rich. I may try to get there to see my buddy Bernie one day. I still wish someday I could get to see the Music Hall booth.
Mark is correct, in general. Major is a relative word depending on who you talk to. If you’re in the show, or working on the show, then there definitely were major changes last year. The flying objects (snowflake balloons) were replaced with the disastrous mini drones. The human flying star scene was added with the drones. A lot of new digital content was changed and added. Camels were not on stage for the Nativity scene. The band car traveled across the stage during the show, like it used to years back. Also, a 2 minute countdown movie was added to the rear LED wall at the top of the show.
This year’s show left out the drones and human star scene. Camels are also back on stage in Nativity. Very slight digital content updates were also done. The last 5 minutes of the show changed slightly with added singers going down the aisles in the orchestra.
These are all major changes to a lot of people. As far as the MAIN scenes that have been in the show forever, they will never change much because they work. There will always be slight tweaks here and there but never too much. There is something new every year. It might not be big, but there are always changes.
markp, Was last year a new show? In 2018, did they perform the 12 Days of Christmas routine? Was New York at Christmas part of the show? Did the Rockettes perform as Rag Dolls? If yes, then it was most certainly not new. I am not attempting to make you wrong. I just disagree with you. The Christmas Show, while fun, has not been “new” for many years.
Comfortably Cool, my wife is a wardrobe attendant on the Christmas show. She has been for the past 12 years. Except for minor tweeks, the show goes thru major changes every 3 years. Last year was a new show.
Same show as last year except the drones are thankfully gone. A little more interaction with the audience near the end with singers going up and down the aisles. Some of the digital projection has been tweaked.
The 2019 “Christmas Spectacular” is reportedly not much different from last year’s, which introduced some new elements and special effects. Here’s a link to a brief trailer for the 2019 edition
As per CC’s The Brain ad this was the last Thanksgiving film at the Hall. The following year’s Billy Wilder disaster Sherlock Holmes which was considered the Thanksgiving film had to be pulled so Scrooge and the Nativity entered a couple of weeks early and precipitated the entire early/mid November Christmas cultural change.
Here’s a link to The Hollywood Reporter’s review of the 50th Anniversary Tribute to “Easy Rider” at RCMH last week. View
Concerning the Operation Crossbow ad Ponti must have given the Music Hall a very advantageous deal indeed. About as unlike an Easter movie as can be imagined in the 60s. And from the illustration of the stage show it looks like it might be the one included in the old souvenir program with a view of the entire interior, a spectacular stage finale at Leonidoff’s Russian gaudy best and the Rockettes in the front looking great. The swan is the tipoff.
So why hasn’t the problem been fixed by now?
Comfortably Cool. Over the years, time and time again, I have found (and reported) that the Nearby Theater feature of CT is severely flawed.
Wasn’t the Roxy close enough to the Music Hall to be listed as a “nearby” theater? Certainly closer than the currently cited World and Belmont.
Tomorrow night’s 50th Anniversary Celebration of “Easy Rider” (9/20/19) will go on as scheduled at Radio City Music Hall, but with a tribute to the life and legacy of Peter Fonda added. Update here
Ok. I just mentioned that the news was very sad assuming that people on CT knew that I was referring to Fonda and putting it on this page because he was due to speak here in a highly publicized event in a month. Even at 79 he seemed healthy and planning public events.
Vindanpar: There were two brief comments posted, but neither mentioned Peter Fonda by name, so they were deleted. Strangely, I never saw your posting.
Rob, I think you mean unlike Wikipedia, where anyone can edit an entry…
