History repeats itself……..sort of. 29 years ago “King Kong” was a Christmas attraction like it is this year. Look at the theatres in the 5 boros every one is gone except the American in the Bronx. View link
If you scan down to the bottom of the page you can see an ad for the show “Wonder World” that Leonidoff created for the 1964-65 World’s Fair. View link
I think it will look tacky and out of place amid all that glass and steel. I hate to say this but just tear it down and let’s remember it the way it was. Let’s save the Kings instead.
This theater presented 3 strip Cinerama?!? I didn’t think that format ever crossed the East River out of Manhattan in the NY Metro area. Can someone confirm which features played here in that format and when? Was the curved screen maintained until the bitter end?

The late great Syosset played many Cinerama engagements both single and three strip.

Christmas 1983 “Return of the Jedi”. From the showtimes you can tell it was a double bill which they usually always had.

What about the Gramercy? I think it’s for rent.
I don’t understand the theatre business anymore. Isn’t three miles away far enough for theatres to draw from different areas?
I wonder why they left the other sign up there?
I have a lot of pictures of this theatre before and after the renovations (including the yellow wall). When I locate them I will post them.
I have seen this picture shown so many times over the years. It is always to highlight what television did to the movies.

The Haven was never a porn theatre. They ran X a few times and the neighborhood fought it.
It was always called the Cross Island
I hate to see this close. Dan Talbot would be able to get good bookings here since he already books Lincoln Plaza.
Another fun double bill at the Madison
