If your or any town is lucky enough to still have a DeAngelis designed theatre, it is worth saving even if the theatre has been altered in a big way or in a small way though small alterations are better and easier to correct!
Denpiano: Please tell us your memories of going to Wanamakers in Philly to hear that organ. I understand the dept. store is gone now, but folks can still hear the organ. Is that true?
clarkw: “He was still living until a few years ago, at least.” How did you learn this information about Michael DeAngelis? If anyone knows if Mr. DeAngelis is still living, please advise! Thank you.
I’m back reading about this theatre after recently learning of another DeAngelis designed theatre that is to be demolished soon…the Granada Theatre in Beaver Falls PA. The only one that I know that is still open is the Strand in Brockport NY. I plan to see it in 2010!
The zip code for the above Mayor’s office address is 15010-4124. I have also composed my letter to Mayor Karl Boak. Though it will probably be too late to save the Granada I wanted him to know about Cinema Treasures and that the CT membership is not happy about this end of the year theatre news! I hope that many of you decide to write him a letter of regret, too.
“The auditorium was leveled with concrete and divided into tiny shops and offices. Above the suspended ceiling, the auditorium was left largely intact.” This quote was taken from the site http://www.spyndoctors.com/krooners.html
I can’t quite picture how this all must have looked…the word, strange comes to mind and very disturbing to think that the citizens of Beaver Falls didn’t band together to save this theatre. Even after it was closed for 13 years it was completely intact then and wouldn’t have taken much to restore it….then!
“This of course is on top of the other problems the building has such as the aforementioned ceiling.” Can anyone tell me about what was changed in regards to the original ceiling? Was a lowered ceiling put in and the original ceiling still remains?
What is the status of this theatre now? One of the photos shows it being a night club at one time. Also interesting to learn that a Wurlitzer was installed in 1927.
And there was no email address provided to contacting Mr. Boak. If he were to get enough calls, it just might stop or at least delay the demolition. Look at the beautiful Fox in Atlanta……. it was saved at the 11th hour!
“Beaver Falls Mayor Karl Boak lamented the passing of the city landmark.” That’s nice to know, but it won’t save it come December 30th! My wish for the new year would be for someone to prove this community wrong and restore the Granada! Nothing is impossible!

Let me be the first to say I don’t like the idea of this theatre being demolished as it is “the last classic movie house in Beaver County”. That should count for something and make everyone involved…rethink this demolition!
The spelling of her name was incorrectly typed..it is not Sovaldi, but rather Savoldi as in her email address though I wasn’t able to send an email to that address. If anyone wants to contact her, I suggest calling her busines number!
Chuck: I agree…a great site with interesting history that I just read and digested..thank you Bart Dattola!

I just called and left a voice mail for Mayor Boak so will see if I hear back from the good Mayor in Beaver Falls PA either by phone or by email.
Chuck: Absolutely awesome photos!

A Castlebrook representative said demolition SHOULD start on Dec. 30. Maybe this doesn’t mean December 30th afterall.
I do hope many take the time to call Mayor Boak and tell him how upset we are about the pending demise of the once grand Granada Theatre.
