Many cities and towns levy an “admissions tax” on movie theaters and legitimate theaters on tickets sold. The 5 percent figure quoted in the newspaper story is the average rate in Washinton state. Naturally you also must pay sales tax. Taxes have been a normal part of the theater industry for decades.
If you had a family and you all went to an evening show, add up the total cost: admission for each family member, food for each person and the gas to get there and back. I bet you’ve thrown $100 down the drain to go out to a show.
It just plain costs TOO much to go out to a movie today.
Stay home and watch it on tv. You can mute/edit out the commercials too!
Yes this will absolutely kill the theaters. Since they are already converting theaters from film to digital “video” projection this is turning the theaters into replicas of your living room. No need to even go to a theater anymore.
The theater has hit a snag. Apparently they opened without an Ocupancy Permit and the Fire Department has issues regarding a fire escape. Here’s the link to the newspaper story:
Looks like a nice theater to restore.
Wait till it goes on sale at Best Buy like all the other projector tv’s.
Well they’ve run into another snag. Seems they have a problem with “Admissions tax”:

Don’t forget that here in Washington state we have a rather high minimum wage to pay employees.
Didn’t see any pictures of the projection booth, the new sound system, or the stage/screen.
Who did the sound system install, McRae Theatre Equipment?
This is horrible news. They just put all that money into fixing up the theater too.
Now officially restored with a new ceiling and twinkling lights. Great newspaper story dated January 24, 2009:

Not more SPAM again.
Yep, sure looks like spam.
Actually, I have 30+ yeears in the theater biz.
With all the money those ads pay theater owners, admission and snack bar prices sould be lower!
Oh great…..another theater chain showing tv commercials. Might as well stay home. At least at home you can mute the sound.

Now how can you use collected rainwater in the fire sprinklers and other plumbing and keep up the water pressure?
And tell me how you can use solar panels to provide enough power to run the lamphouse rectifiers that light up 60 foot screens?
A $10,000 video projector at a drive-in? Boy I bet that is one dark picture.
What a greedy bastard. Won’t allow a person buying the drive-in to use it as a theater! BOO!
I’d like to see some interior pictures including the projection booth.
They should strike 35mm prints for this instead of the video showings in theaters.
Looks like a very nice theater to rebuild.
It’s also nice to see a new sidewalk being installed along the whole block.
