You got that right Nova. I remember it well . It was the talk of all the kids who went there after the movies. My parents danced at a place called The Triangle Ballroom located near there. Any recollection ? robbie
Thanks for the update. That is all really close to my home. In all my travels I have never met anyone from there at that time period. As you know, the neighborhood broke apart and everyone scattered .Sadly, all the movie theatre’s closed . I have been back a few times but there is hardly a trace of the wonderful times I remember. I am glad that this site offers many shared memories . Robbie
i was born in 46. st michaels was on liberty and jerome. it was best known for the girls high school but the grade school was right next door. later, we moved to autumn ave and i went to F.K.Lane and attended Blessed Sacrament but sadly, i played hooky at The Logan Pool Hall many Sunday’s … wher did you live etc….robbie
The Haven was a fun place but as I recall, very run down. I attended many movied ther in the 60’s but it always seemed to be the worst of the Jamaica Ave. theatres. They were all close together only a train stop or two apart. Haven, Roosevelt, Willard, Keith’s and Valencia- did I miss any ? robbiedupree
Raym- i have similar recollections. I went to st. michaels grade school on liberty ave and jerome st. the Kinema was one of my favorite thetares as a kid. My friends and I all went there for the matinee’s when we weren’t at The Embassy or The Earl. I remember hanging out at the 214 schoolyard and roaming the streets of ENY. robbiedupree
I saw a prizefight at The Keith’s in 1979. It was a Bingo joint but they held pro-cards from time to time. I had not been there since the early 60’s and it was really odd to see it in that light. At least it’s still open n some capacity..robbiedupree
I lived on Crescent St. in Brooklyn, right under the BMT Jamaica line. Most times I went to more local theatres like The Embassy, The Haven or The Earl but as reached driving age I went to The Valencia on dates. It was that kind of theatre, like nothing I had ever seen. I don’t remember the exact date but the last movie I saw there was The Wild Bunch. There weren’t 50 people in the theatre and I could feel the end was in sight. I was so happy to find this site and read all these wonderful stories and facts. Does anyone know when The Wild Bunch played ? RobbieDupree

I grew up around the corner from the Warwick. It was in it’s last days but I can still remember going to “dish night” with my grandmother. When it closed, the neighborhhod kids found a way in and made it a playground for years. Back in 37' my Mother’s friend was hired to dress up like Dorothy and was driven around the neighbood to promote the opening of Wizard Of Oz. It was a charming story that could have only happened then and there. I would love to know if anyone remembers The Warwick and and details of it’s run as my neighborhood theatre.. RobbieDupree
many great memories for me. i lived on arlington ave. from 55'-63. attended st.michaels grammar school and marched to the embassy many times with classmates and the nuns to see movies like The Robe and Miracle at Fatima..school trips..also, so many saturday matinee’s..love to hear from anyone from that time…robbiedupree
