This comment was on a anti-theater website. I agree with what they posted!!!
“Here’s how to increase membership…It’s like pro sports, or a business. If it is not being successful, the person in charge is let go. Maybe that’s what the Friends need, the President and Vice President to step down and allow fresh, new ideas take over. It’s obvious that they’re elitist, condescending attitude did not will them and votes or new Friends. In fact, it looks like it lost them quite a few!!”
Too bad the plan wasn’t supported by a majority of the Friends rank and file membership. They were sold down the river so a few people could continue to get their names in the paper. They seem to have forgotten the full name of the group, Friends of the Dupage Theatre. Funny, the theatre part has been out of the equation for quite a while though…
Well folks, the historic DuPage Theatre still has a pulse, although it’s weak, thready and on life support! It would have been nice if last year members of the Friends had put egos, rumors and personal opinions aside and really worked for what’s important, the DuPage. When they were wrong and they KNEW it, they simply ignored the obvious, polite thing to do and decided to turn their noses and backs on many of those who had been around from the beginning, long before they even THOUGHT about being part of any group. Many, many GOOD ideas we offered, but they all “knew better” those ideas were left by the wayside on favor of a compromise plan that will lead to the demise of the very thing they were commissioned to save, that being the theater. It’s too bad too, because if they would have tried to keep an open mind and actually listened to the ideas, they probably wouldn’t been in the boat they are now!!!
I saw a copy of the film. Too bad we couldn’t have had it screened at the DuPage. I liked all the anti-theatre people who spoke against the project! There was, um, let’s see, no one. I guess they were all camera shy, despite being repeatedly asked to appear. Makes you really question their motives, doesn’t it?
Allow me to restate my beliefs. I am for a restored DuPage Theatre. I believe that egos and attitude have long since taken over the Friends of the DuPage Theatre, and at this point, there is very little hope. I believe that there is another “plan” for the property that will spring to life once the historic theatre is demolished. A plan that will not help the residents, except maybe a few choice ones.
I would like to see a cultural center that will lead to a revolution of thinking and acting in Lombard. Once the building is gone, it can NEVER be brought back. Those types of buildings are vanishing very rapidly from the American landscape and unless dedicated people bravely spet up and accept the challenge to save them, our world will be that of strictly concrete and glass, basically faceless and generic, compared to how it could be, with vibrant terra cotta, bright lights and smiling faces. One needs to look no further than Schaumburg, Crystal Lake or St. Charles to see how theatre can enrich a community, both artistically AND financially…
What really saddens me is the mentality (or lack thereof) shown by those who run this site. They threaten as well as follow through with shutting down pages regarding the DuPage Theatre. Why do they do so? Because a few anti-theatre denizens come on here, pollute the waters with their filth, then slink back into the shadows. Take this “Ann Puzan” person. According to Lombard voting records, she is a woman well into her 70’s! Yet she posts like she is much younger, complete with up-to-date insults. How suspect is that? I BEG those who run this site to start looking at things like e-mail addresses as well as IP addresses and see who’s actually spewing this filth rather than shut down these pages entirely. Make those guilty crawl back under the rocks they came from!
Well folks, it looks like it’s over…Look for several well-known names in town to come forward with a development plan for the theatre property in the coming months…
I STRONGLY believe had the Friends listen to comon sense rather than some of their own inflated egos and scattered reasoning and gone ahead and done the petition drive BEFORE the court hearing, there would be a different outcome. Instead, the issue seems to be pretty much over. If they had show that a MAJORITY of residents were willing to stand up and say that they were in FAVOR of the DuPage Theatre, it would be pretty strong evidence in court and te court of public opinion. Instead, the Friends were outdone by a few individuals with suspicious intentions. Will we finally have them come out and publically identify who they actually are, sort of like Kiss removing their make-up? Probably not, since most people won’t like what they see—they’ll realize they were sold out by some pretty big names, and for what? Corporate greed? People’s assured retirement? It just doesn’t make sense now, does it???
I went past the drive-in yesterday, it’s really sad…Abandoned, gravel and chunks of concrete in huge piles all over the place. I don’t give it much hope of ever reopening. The speedway across the street has been closed for a few years now, and is slowly being disassembled. The entire area is going downhill fast!
Melders, here’s another interesting fact regarding True Class. They CLAIM to be a female senior citizen, yet after going through voter registration and a phone call to a very kind older lady, she said she does not even have a computer, and has NEVER posted on here, so don’t call TC a “her” it’s not, it’s this LAMP who really has issues with a few people.
He is probably behind that whole “Jayme Warnock” thing—remember that? What happen to “her” she was sooo against the theatre, yet she disappeared off the face of the earth. Be afraid, be very afraid…
Melders, as usual, you are right on!!! I was just sitting in my office thinking when I realized that is the anti-theatre groups intention—to get this site shut down! They have an anti-theatre site that THEY CONTROL. They have banned people from posting that have spoken in favor of the theatre. In fact, whoever goes under the screen name True Class on here goes by LAMP on there, and they ovbiously have a problem with certian people on both sites.
These “people” are bent on destroying our theatre for whatever reason; when points are made to support our cause, they make ridiculous posts to draw attention from the ovbious. The say they are against TIF, yet they have no problem with the Park District accepting $100,000 for a small park. They say they have problems with variances on the theatre, yet they NEVER spoke out publically about several other projects in town-St. John’s church, the hospital or the convention center that required a laundry list of variances to be built. They claim “obscene” harassing e-mails were sent, yet they have NEVER produced a single one. A few months ago, a film maker came to town to film a documentary about the DuPage Theatre, he invited both sides to be interviewed, no one opposed to the theatre showed up. A local reporter who has printed stories about the theatre has yet to print any names of private citizens quoted in her stories, and why? They simply refuse to give their names. Afraid to come into the light, taking pot-shots from the dark, trying to scare people will inneundos and threats of increased taxes due to the theatre is their S.O.P. Some of us try to fight this, only to be ridiculed, harassed and threatened. Again, how sad.
Make no mistake, there are people in Lombard who want to see the DuPage Theatre demolished, and will stop at nothing to see it happen. They claim it is the will of the people, and the Friends refuse to go door to door to see if it really is the will for whatever reason, be it ignorance, ineptitude, attitude, laziness or whatever, their time is running out. Once the theatre is gone, it can never be brought back…The Friends have said that time and time again. Myself and many others have volunteered to hit the streets, but to no avail. Better start saying your good-byes now, after the court date, I’m sure the next day, if not that day, the wrecking ball will fly, and it will be the darkest day in Lombards history. Better start taking down those “Historic Downtown Lombard” signs, there will be no history left…
Great idea Duper! I had mentioned that very thing the other day before TC/LAMP started up again… Why not put the childrens section where the apartments/shops are now and build a new adult section and offices on the south property? Use eminent domain to take some of the houses just east of the theatre and build a parking garage there!
I STILL would like to see a petition drive instead of a “Say Goodbye to the DuPage” cocktail party—in VILLA PARK!!!
LAMP would you give it a rest. You should be KICKED OFF here for spreading malicious lies and just causing general problems! Those screen names are NOT all the same person!
Here we go again…Facts? Based on what? I, for one, know I’m not Jim…Once again, VERY VALID points are raised by a THEATRE SUPPORTER, and you try to sidestep the issues and go off on a tangent. Where’s the proof? The same place the “disgusting” e-mails are I bet—only in your mind!!!
Can “toni” or any other member of the Friends bored tell me what they are doing to save the theatre?? I mean, besides their upcoming “Say Goodbye to the DuPage” cocktail party?
If they were serious, they would be all over the media, out on the streets, etc, garnering support. Maybe even try doing a petition drive…oh no wait, that would involve physical work, and they are either above it or too arrogant in their thinking, I can’t decide which…
Boy Neighbor, for someone who tries to pass themselves off as being sooo invloved in Lombard, you sure don’t seem like it. The library board has publically said, on many occasions, that they are NOT INTERESTED in the theatre property for the library. Why would you want something that young, unattended children buzz in and out of all day, not to mention the traffic from parents dropping their kids off, on a MAIN ROAD through town? Talk about GRIDLOCK!!!
Speaking of the old Menards property, why hasn’t the Village Board declared it “blighted” or a “economic liability” like they did for Yorktown? It certianly applies more in the case of Menards than the mall. What is the first thing that visitors see when they get off the tollway? A run-down, abandoned mall, a symbol of the way things work in Lombard—“If you ain’t by the Mall, you priority is very small”
I saw on the anti-theatre web site that someone asked why the convention center is 65 million over it’s original figure yet no one is questioning it at all. Yet the theatre is under such a microscope it’s not even funny. Something sure is wrong with the logic on this one…
Can anyone provide me with a few pieces of information?
1. Time and courtroom number for the 17th.
2. Names of the 4 demolition companies who submitted bids to the VOL.
Let me remind everyone of my last post today…
Melders, that would be an idea, but the current apartments and shops square footage wouldn’t be enough for the library. However, the south property would contain enough footage. Why not separate the youth section from the adult then, with the theatre in between?
The answer is simple. The plan calls for the theatre to be demolished with the “intention” of putting the library there. The subject would then have to go out to referendum. There is already talk at the Board level of putting the question about raising sales tax a ½ percent on the ballot as well, Lombardians, who will not want to see sales tax raised, also don’t want to see their property taxes raised, so they will vote no on both issues. Tax increase referendums across the board RARELY pass, look at Dist. 87, they have lost several times and may try again in the spring! The library plan will then be dead and the vacant former historic theatre property can be turned into their beloved ugly parking garage. Now I’m not claiming to be Nostradamus, but I’d be willing to bet a shiny new dime I’m right on this one. I predicted the vote to raze, I missed it by a month, I predicted the vote to return the State and Federal money, was right on there too. Sometimes I hate being right.

WOW!! Finally someone on here with some COMMON SENSE!! I have been saying all along the Friends should be doing a petition drive, and ONLY of REGISTERED LOMBARD VOTERS, but since I’m NOT C"Communications Director" or some other lofty title on the Board, my suggestion doesn’t count…
Talking to people on here, or anywhere that are against the Theatre is WORTHLESS!! They are trying to sidetrack the Friends with the notion that they want to work with them. Rather than start walking, the Friends are apparently talking…TO THE WRONG PEOPLE? Remember what Defeno said the other day…“Another article in today’s Herald about the Wheaton Grand. Everything I have read regarding that issue has been about controversy, mud-slinging and allegations of improprieties. I think the VOL has done us all a favor with their vote to move us forward.” THESE ARE THE PEOPLE THE FRIENDS ARE TALKING TO, FOLKS!! They sound pretty open to me!!!
PAY ATTENTION NOW FOLKS, HERE’S WHERE WE SOMEHOW LOOSE THE BOARD OF THE FRIENDS IF the Friends were to do a door-to-door petition drive in the Village of Lombard of REGISTERED VOTERS (I’d even provide them with the current list!!!) and a MAJORITY of the TAXPAYING CITIZENS OF LOMBARD SIGNED THE PETITION IN FAVOR OF THE THEATRE, how could the Trustees, who swore an oath to REPRESENT THE CITIZENS (TAXPAYERS) WHO ELECTED THEM vote to demolish? The FREE WILL OF THE PEOPLE WOULD HAVE SPOKEN!! DEMOCRACY AT ITS FINEST!!!Don’t you think many, many people up and down the political food chain would stand up and take notice if that happened? How embarassing for the Trustees who voted against if their residents OVERWHELMINGLY voted for the Theatre? How would the Judge react on the 17th if presented as evidence were stacks and stacks of petitions in favor of the Theatre? Instead, what do the Friends do? Host cocktail parties for residents firmly against the project, I’m sure their entry fees will be waived as well in hopes of changing their minds…FAT CHANCE!!! If the anti-theatre bunch wants to know public sentiment so much and the Board trusts them enough to talk to them, why not let them take petitions around as well? ha ha
DO THE PETITION DRIVE!!! STOP TALKING AND START WALKING BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE!!!
“Toni”… Your coments were…“Dude, we decided not to do the petitions back then. We are working very hard on other solutions, including creating a development that should make everyone happy. What we are trying to do here is find out what will make everyone happy. That is the purpose of the Historical Commision’s 6 mo review. ” What your Board seems to fail to realize is that there are a handful of people out there who’s sole purpose in life seems to be to turn the DuPage Theatre into an empty lot! You can propose a building made of choclate donuts that all can eat from and they’ll suddenly all become diabetic, or complain about the high price of chocolate! I can’t wait to see the looks on their faces when a high-rise office building is allowed to be built there “for the good of the Downtown”. I am trying to get you people to realize that talking to them is a WORTHLESS MOVE. Talk to Defeno, claim to be making progress, then look what he posts on the anti-theatre board. You talk to Sebby/Challenger all day on here, look where that’s gotten you. All this TALKING, when you should all be WALKING…GETTING SIGNATURES FOR A REFERENDUM, or at the very least A PETITION to show once and for all there IS SUPPORT for the project. Otherwise, quit wasting time and building up people’s hopes of a restored theatre in Lombard!
Another question, if someone on here has e-mails that prove a poster has been sending “disgusting” things, why not post them for all to see? Change/delete some of the wording if you would like, but EITHER POST THEM ON HERE FOR ALL TO SEE OR STOP TALKIING ABOUT THEM.
If the Friends finally do decide to do a petition drive, let me know, I'l throw on my walking shoes and get going!!!
And Steve, why complain about someone on here all day—aren’t you doing the same thing? What if they are unable to leave the house, injured, handicaped or babysitting?
Finally, I think the point that was attempted to be made on the anti-theatre web site, which was lost on the simple minds was this. Yes, it is great that the Sox won, but remember that the building they played in was built with TAX DOLLARS. Some on here claim to be “watchdogs” but then the dog goes to sleep when an example is shown of how TAX DOLLARS work for the good. If the Sox, as a private corporation, which they are, had to build that park themselves, they would have no money to pat rheir players. Think about that…
“Another article in today’s Herald about the Wheaton Grand. Everything I have read regarding that issue has been about controversy, mud-slinging and allegations of improprieties. I think the VOL has done us all a favor with their vote to move us forward.” This is a direct quote from Bob Defeno, the self-procalimed “leader” of the Charlotte Street anti-theatre group. These are the attitudes of the people that Ms. Dynako wants to talk with. I’m no communications expert, but it seems like he/they are pretty set in their ways, and ovbiously talking to THEM is getting no where, so why do it?
This comment was on a anti-theater website. I agree with what they posted!!!

I thought the 10 million dollars was for the theatre portion, NOT the condo portion…Funny how things get changed to suit some people…
