Once in the very early 1980’s, I saw “Last House on the Left” here as a re-release. Isn’t that strange? I loved the movie, however. I just thought it was an odd choice for this type of theater. It played with a horrible second feature called “The House by the Lake” with Brenda Vacarro! I will never , ever go out and watch a Brenda Vacarro movie in the theater! Kidding aside— I wonder if this “Last House” release was due to “I Spit on Your Grave” becoming a huge video (VHS) sale/rental because Siskel & Ebert named it “Dog of the Week” on “Sneak Previews” ?
One of the biggest movies to ever playhere was the Shining!
Also saw “The Legacy” there in 1979. That was a now forgotten thriller with Katherine Ross, Sam Elliot and Roger Daltry.
In 1979, I was almost alone in the theater, watching the Bee Gees and Peter Frampton in “Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band” in this theater! At one point, the York (like the Whitman) was a “blind bid” theater and showed low budget “grindhouse” type movies? I also saw “Young Frankenstein” here in 1975, and in 1980, I saw “Zombie”.
Thanks for that great history Warren!
function should be /retail

Call me crazy my favourite CENTURY THEATER VERY MUCH LIKE THE WHITMAN but always treated as third class THE shore , Whitman AND york all on the same strip. The York was centurys best Disney house so the bookers would book r rated movies.
No. The Huntington was located in the downtown village area, near Main Street (Rte 25A). This theatre was located between the LIRR station and downtown, in the Big H Shopping center, an outdoor strip mall that had a Sears, also long closed.
