A biography she wrote in 1928 said she went to Bayside High School. She talks about going to the movies in her early teens, so that’s about 1918- 1920.

Can anyone tell me what theater Clara Bow probably frequented prior to her entry into films? I am talking about 1920- 1921. A documentary said she was born in Brooklyn, and the family moved to Sheepshead Bay near Coney Island, so I assume that was where she was living at that time. She left for Hollywood in 1923.

AH the grandview open air movies !! in the summer swatting mosquitos and enjoying a lemon ice for 5 cents at the little refreshment stand…the only film i rember outdoors was THE SULLIVANS in 1944…there was not a dry eye in the audience at the end!!!!

I wish to correct my previous post. There are multiple listings for a Grandview theatre on Grandview Avenue and a Grand View theatre on Woodward Avenue. The Grandview Theatre at 659 Grandview Avenue opened in 1923 with a closing date of 1954. The opening and closing dates mirror another Ridgewood theatre named the Majestic theatre. I have no further information on the Grand View on Woodward Avenue.
I show the Grandview theatre with an opening date of 1927 and a closing date of 1954. The outdoor portion of this theatre has no listing so no date is available.

Their was only one GrandView theatre.
The RKO theater on Manhattan Ave was the RKO Greenpoint theater I believe. I think it is already listed on the site. The building has been demolished.
Greenpoint has always been, and still is, a heavily Polish Brooklyn neighborhood. The eagle atop the Chopin / American could have been an American eagle, or it could have been a Polish symbol, as in the “White Eagle” Polish food markets throughout NYC.

Regarding the Paytons Lee Avenue listed for 170 Division Street, circa 1914-15, was this the Division Street which was later renamed Broadway ?
