The Brookhaven theater was a reduced priced for many years
The lastest I have heard is that Target Stores is interested in the Multiplex Cinemas buildings. It doesn’t look like it will ever be a theater again, as it appears mostly large stores are showing an interest in the huge building.
Hello;
I would like to comment to the person above who mistook the Brookhaven Multiplex for the Brookhaven Theater. I was to both of them. Frankly, I can see your love for the Brookhaven Theater, which was in Port Jefferson, because I remember sitting in the Balcony for Footloose in the 1980s. It was a grand theater and they should have never tore it apart to make that Blockbuster video. The Brookhaven Multiplex was miles from Port Jefferson in Medford. It was a great theater for its time, and someone should take the place over.
THIS TO BE A TARGET AS I AM TOLD
Someone should be brave and open this as a $2 house.
It sure is, and it really was in nice shape when it closed. It’s a shame really. NA claims they had no intention of closing it when they built the new modern Island 16 so nearby, but I have my doubts. The Island 16 killed the Brookhaven Multiplex (which NA also owns) and probly crippled the UA Patchogue 13 multiplex too.
By the way, the actual address for the former Brookhaven Multplex Cinemas was 440 S Expressway Service Road.
This has to be one of the youngest and largest plex’s to close
Nah, the Brookhaven Multiplex was built on formerly wooded land back in the 80’s. Not near the north shore in Port Jefferson. Unfortunately, I don’t know anything about the “Brookhaven” theater you are talking about.
I recall during the summers of the mid-fifties I frequented a Brookhaven theatre that was within close proximity to the Port Jefferson ferry landing. We spent our summers in Rocky Point and occasionally my parents took me to the Brookhaven theatre after which we visited the Gramas ice parlor in Port Jefferson, minutes away. Does anyone recall that theatre? Is the Brookhaven theatre I frequented later to become the Brookhaven Multiplex of the eighties? I am unable to provide an address because many of today’s roads did not exist. Also, many of the town or communities did not exist. Much of the area was still farmland. And besides, I was 9 to 14 years old during those summers so what did I know.
I’m sorry, my sense of direction must’ve been mixed up when I typed the above information; the Brookhaven Multiplex is/was on the South Service Road, not the North Service Rd.
