Glad they are better there. Here in Asheville they don’t even use the box office anymore you have to buy tickets at the concession stand which is ridiculous.
Ed Solero, it was kind of like the original shadow box screens at GCC when they first opened. They did not have masking like most Ruggoff theaters they had just a single strip that came down from the ceiling. Very strange.
This makes me very sad. It’s a shame the 3 smaller theaters were already turned into stores. I would be happy even if they Divided the balcony and orchestra to make two theaters. Howard, I thought the auditorium had landmark status. I remember talking to a rep at United Artists when they added the extra small theater because I thought they had divided it than and I was told it preserved by landmark status and that was what they wanted to do but couldn’t. Sigh
I was there yesterday and the theater has been closed for about 3 years. The young man at King’s Bicycle rental was very nice and walked me in the theater. Since there is no electricity I had to use my flashlight on my I phone. The theater inside is intact and beautiful. They have deco décor and the screen sits on a stage. The seats seem to be in good shape. It would be nice to see this treasure reopen one day. The inside is used for bicycle storage.
Did this drive in have a screen large enough o sow true scope films? The other drive ins in Tamps area didn’t and a film in scope was off the side of the screen in the bushes very frustrating.
Have they gone digital?
By the 80’s it was strictly a porn theater.
City Cinemas should take it over and make it Cinema 4
Didn’t they covert to digital last year? I thought Hyde Park, Overlook, Warwick and this theater had all converted.
Update status to closed.
UGH Carmike is one of the worst theater chains ever. I hate to see them get this theater.
Are films still being shown here?
They had the exclusive showing of The Color Purple in 1986. It took months to get in to see it.
I agree this need to NOT happen.

I saw Prince of Tides there in 1991 and Harry Potter in 2007 and it was first run.
Great pics brings back memories.
Carmike is the worst theater chain around. Good luck I refuse to go to their theater here in NC.

Nick 810,It did not. It had a screen in the wall.

Was there yesterday the theater closed in 2010. It is boarded up and they said the inside is intact. Update status to CLOSED.
Absolutely a great video.

When did they reopen?
