Granada: Thanks for the updated information on this theatre. It would be grand if this theatre could be restored for future generations and for those of us who recall the older art deco theatres when they were new and vital to so many communities. My former hometown theatre was art deco and I miss it every day.

I just learned of this venue after researching Conneaut Lake Park…have interest not only in theatres, but amusement parks, too. Please go to www.conneautlakepark.com and sign up for free to vote for the restoration of their wooden roller coaster, the Blue Streak through the Pepsi Refresh Everything project. The Blue Streak is one of only 2 left in the country like it….the other one is somewhere in Colorado! Thanks so very much!!

The exterior is a material called Vitrolite.

tisloews: Glad you liked the video posted by Lost Memory who, btw, is no longer a contributing CT member and our great loss!

RickB: A CT friend of mine just sent me the article….very nice.

If a church owns this former theatre, I hope it doesn’t look like the photo!

My friends who live in Youngsville have now given me a photo of this former Blatt Bros. theatre.

MJM: Nice to know that you live in Avon and can give us updated reports. BTW, my email is if you wish to chat about the Park. In the meantime, I haven’t heard back from a former classmate about the theatre. It would be interesting to learn what happened to the seats. I know that the Hollywood Theatre in Gowanda NY is being restored and those seats are being redone by local prisoners or so the story goes.

MJM: The tragic, but historical part of the story for this theatre was included at the top of this link when this theatre was first posted by Richard Grow. Perhaps he will be able to give a current update and tell us that the theatre is again…a theatre.

MJM: The person who would probably be able to tell you about the current status of this theater is no longer a member so perhaps someone will post some continued information. I do have a former classmate who lives in Avon so she might be able to shed some light….stay tuned.

I just learned that a recent article was in the Pittsburgh paper concerning this theatre.

Patsy commented about Palace Theatre on Jun 8, 2010 at 11:53 am

Chuck: I wondered about the word “country” vs “county”! None the less, I hope that the Palace is able to make their roof remains and get back to normal operations soon!

Patsy

Chuck: I agree, but in the meantime I thought an email of concern would show our support during their time of upheaval.

I just send the Palace Theatre an email that reads:

“All of us on the theatre internet site, Cinema Treasures wishes the historical Palace Theatre the very best after being damaged from a recent tornado on June 5, 2010.”

Though Lost Memory is no longer a CT member, I wish to thank him for the photos he posted in 2008 of this theatre with a now damaged roof. I wish the Palace well and hope that it is able to reopen in the very near future!

Patsy
Patsy commented about Palace Theatre on Jun 7, 2010 at 12:29 pm

I hope the roof can be easily repaired though the article said that a 30 foot hole had been ripped in the roof of this original rare single screen cinema that is “one of the gems of charming downtown Elmwood”. If anyone lives in or near Elmwood, please let us know.

CWalczak: I heard on the radio about a movie theater being damaged by a recent tornado, but wasn’t sure where it was located until I googled an article and it mentioned the town being 30 miles west of Peoria so I figured the theatre was in Illinois. I then found it listed on CT which led me to your post with article. Thanks for posting.

Patsy commented about Tampa Theatre on Jun 2, 2010 at 8:23 am

N: Yes, hearing that Mighty Wurlitzer was half the enjoyment of attending the Tampa! RIP Miss Rosa Rio. The Riviera in North Tonawanda NY has its original Wurlitzer and was the demo organ for the Wurlitzer Organ Company located in that Buffalo NY suburb. Organ concerts are held at the theatre throughout the year so if you ever find yourself in Buffalo, take time to visit that cinema treasure and its Mighty Wurlitzer as it rises from the orchestra pit!

tisloews: I agree! I had the opportunity to see her in person at the Tampa Theatre. She was truly amazing to see come up from the orchestra pit playing those keys and pedals that filled the auditorium with glorious organ music! Play on Rosa for all of heaven to hear!

N DiMaggio: There will be a tribute in Rosa’s honor. It will be June 5th and the site with additional information is

tislowes and MikeRogers: I see that both of you have provided your email addresses on your profile pages so you both have each others personal email address away from this site. Therefore, please chat about scanners, etc. via your emails rather than here on CT where members are asked to stay on the subject of theatres. Thanks my CT friends.

Bway: I saw the same show on the Travel Channel and found it very fascinating! Supposedly, the ghost’s name is Joe and he died of a heart attack some 50 years ago while walking up the steps to the projection room as he was the resident projectionist then! Paranormal folks came to the theatre and after telling the owners the ghost’s name was Joe they then learned the name of the projectionist….coincidence?
