Actually, the Rectory is between the old church and the Ivory, according my Googling…

According to this link

http://www.ivorytheatre.com/

Is about a block away. I assume the New Ivory? The church looking building could be the Saint Boniface Rectory. Link here:

Wow, sure looks like an eyesore. The black and white picture looks like it MIGHT be open, the color one makes it look like it’s closed. Unless it’s a seasonal schedule, and it could be….

Here are some shot take January 21, 2009. After the broken neon was all replaced. Marquee all restored in these shots.

Let me know if these links don’t work. Trying something new.

Silicon Sam commented about Ritz Theatre Iowa Center for the Performing Arts on Mar 28, 2009 at 9:49 pm

From the September 29th post above:

It was at the Ritz Theatre that people came to see the movie that had been filmed on location on Centerville’s Town Square. The stars of the 1921 silent movie were Norma Talmadge and Harrison Ford. The title was Loves Redemption: Its a Wonderful Thing.

Harrison looks good for his age….

I just happened to be going thru Edna when I was in Houston, and got sent to McAllen. May not be going thru anytime in the foreseeable future, but I’d love to see a nice night pic of the neon, if anyone has any.

Google must be lying to me, but in the street view you see Rockwell running East behind the theater, but just in front of the theater, running the opposite direction West, is Weist Lane. Elkhorn is just North of Weist. Weist connects between Moraine and Elkhorn. Very short street.

Check out my screen capture HERE The theater is located in the background of the pic.

For some reason the Google link takes you to the wrong place. Should be at the corner of Moraine Ave and Weist. A bit further East and North.

You may try zooming out or turning left or right, it’s clearly from a car. Narrow streets though, and not much of a sidewalk.

When you post 10 times in a row to renew a link, all it does is screw up the Recent Comments list for everyone else. If there was more than 10, it wouldn’t be an issue. If you absolutely HAVE to renew a link, try doing one at a time, every couple of hours.

Just my thought…

The corner of Center and 3rd is where the 2700 block starts. So I suppose it was somewhere in the 2600-2699 block, not necessarily 2600 itself. Looks like one side of the street is newer development than the other.

Spoke with a lady that opened the door as I was walking up. Told her I was taking pics for this site, and I got a glazed over look. Maybe she hadn’t heard of the internet yet. They were showing a movie, or I would have gotten some pics inside. If she would have let me in!

Said they opened back up last October.

Outside of building HERE

Underneath canopy shot HERE. Looks like the neon or something has been changed under the canopy since original install. Notice the caps in the metal.

On the right side of the building, behind the window that says Air Conditioning is this old barbershop. HERE and HERE and HERE.

Yeah, I know I am in the last shot!

Silicon Sam commented about Rig Theater on Mar 13, 2009 at 1:10 am

Think I see what’s wrong. The RIG is on Main St, not 1st St. If you do a Google Maps satellite image, the RIG is on the North side of Main St; across the street is a block square park, with a small building off to the center. Just a tad to the West of Hwy 281. The building with the long white roof is likely the RIG. You can see the small add on to the North. Right where the W is on the image text.

I’ve had this book for years now (America Goes to the Movies) and this is one of the saddest pics from it. Photo credit to George Aurelius August 13 1965

I’ll post more from the book, and make sure to give credit where due. Unless I can’t do that, of course…

I’ve updated my picture size as well. My 2/19/09 post should read I took the pic while the screen was the only thing left standing. I had just moved to Dallas, and never saw the theater open.
