I’ve seen elsewhere that it opened on Christmas Day 1950.

Why is there no street view for this theatre?

Roger Katz commented about Bijou Theatre on Jul 20, 2011 at 5:17 pm

I just went to the Bijou today to see some old Chaplin films. The theatre was gutted and rebuilt, but some old features such as the proscenium remain. This could be a great addition to downtown Bridgeport. My only problem was the parking is pricey. It cost me $7 to park in the garage across the street. BTW, the permanent seats are not in yet, but hopefully will arrive soon!

Status should be changed to closed as it went dark on December 31, 2010.

You heard incorrectly.

The owners of the building have been searching for an operator – so far with no success as they are asking for far too much in rent.

I have to be skeptical that this will ever get built. If you go to Spotlight Theatres website you’ll see press releases for two theatres (Loganville and Union City, Georgia) that apparently were enver built.

I think you mean at 147, not 174. That’s the old Colonial Theatre.

This theatre has been multiplexed. If you look at the floor plan on their website it appears to have four screens now. Info up top should be changed accordingly.

THat says they hope to have two screens. There’s a big difference between planning to add one and hoping to add one.
