Kaila: May I suggest that you send your acting classes/workshops request to Mr. Penner via his email that he has so kindly provided for us in his Feb. 20 entry. Good luck as I’m sure he would be receptive to your suggestion.
So nice to find this art deco theatre with its beautiful art deco style facade intact and its original marquee with illuminated neon and lightbulbs. I applaud the folks of Caro for keeping their little town theatre looking great after all of these years!
A former longtime CT member posted here in 2005 about the Robert-Morton organ and it raised my curiosity…until now. I hope to visit the Carolina Theatre and see a performance with organ music. A recent visit to Greensboro this past Sunday allowed me to take some exterior photos prior to the US Figure Skating Championships finale.
Brian: Thank you so much for your reply to me via CT. Now everyone knows about your organ. We, at Cinema Treasures are so very pleased to know that you have your theatre pipe organ as so many theatre have lost their pipe organs for various reasons. And a special thank you to the Piedmont Theatre Organ Society for maintaining a musical treasure.
I have called this theatre’s box office manager and hope to receive a tour this winter. This theatre is just around the corner from the famous Woolworth sit-in of the 60’s which is another stop while in Greensboro.
Curtis McCrary of the Rialto Theatre held a a special vigil in honor of Gabrielle Giffords, John Roll and the other victims of the recent shooting in Tucson AZ tonight at 7:30. The marquee gave a message of hope to their Gabby.
jaybird: Please contact me via my email. Thank you. I know a journalist in Batavia who has written about The Stage and has interest in any current news regarding it.
jaybird21: Sorry to hear that the vitrolite is gone. It’s a shame that I didn’t know the name of a man in St. Louis (back then) who does repair vitrolite across the country/ What is the status with this Mr. Penner and his ownership of The Stage? My email is as I’d like to talk further about this theatre and your meeting with Frank. So glad that you got to meet him!!
jaybird21: I just posted a comment in the Weeks Funeral guest book for Frank Versage. Please read what I wrote and add your comments if you wish as I’m sure the family would appreciate it.

Though it is not my hometown theatre it has a connection to my hometown theatre as they were both designed by Michael DeAngelis.
You are welcome…always nice to see someone interested in the arts and perhaps The Stage would be the perfect venue.

jaybird21: Nice to read “the first film to be shown in several years”! Mr. Versage is smiling down!

The Winter Garden was sadly demolished in the Summer of 2010.

Chuck AND Lost Memory though LM (Ken) doesn’t contribute to CT anymore and it is our great loss to this theatre site.
Does this theatre still have its organ? I hope so!

That would be great as it has set unused for quite some time.
Thanks Chuck…as always!
Penner: Please contact me via email.
Thanks for the photos, Chuck and good to see you on CT in 2011. Aloha?

I just learned of this theatre through a former Toledo resident. You can hear a fascinating balcony story by clicking on this youtube link.

The “sister” theater to this one is the Rogers Theatre in Shelby NC. Owner, Gary Kulas is restoring it. www.rogerstheatershelby.com

Would like to see the stone facade taken off as the original Vitrolite is probably still there!

This theatre was quite ornate for a DeAngelis design. And to think it is now an “empty plot”.
