Basically there are two “half baked” proposals: one too have the city essentially give away the thweater and turn it into a House of Blues type venue and the other is to give away the theater to the historical preservationists, who will pay back the city “eventually”. Neither one, unfortunately, is financially viable, so the theater will probably stay fallow for a few more years.
They should have turned it into an art house theatre for foreign films and classics. Or they should have turned it into an arcade. A regular theatre couldn’t compete with the big chains. Maybe they could just save the facade and “relocate” the building across the street.

I think we should all get together and save the marquee. Then we’ll find another building to stick it to…

I think the story depicted here about the background of this theatre is a bunch of baloney.
