Used to go here alot to see the indies. However, the theater is poorly managed by people with no movie theater experience and run with high schoolers who could care less. They never even shut the doors when the film plays. The theaters are poorly constructed and it’s usually a bad experience. haven’t been there in a decade and will not go back.

All digital but did they change the architecture. This is a horrible theater. The two theaters in the front are like sitting in a basement. The others are just as bad. Haven’t been there in 10 years and plan to never go back.

It was a grand palace back in the day. Now it’s a shoebox. Will never go there again

First movie I saw there “48 Hours” in 82 when the theater opened. Been going there for 30 years, can’t say it’s a good experience however. Theater run by people with no feel for a “movie theater experience”, the theaters are now dank and depressing and theaters 5-8 are the WORST. But it seems every time I go there I get one of those theaters which is why I patron other theaters and not this one so much.

I went to college at GSC (Rowan), in the 80’s, saw “Gandhi”, “Tootsie”, “ON Golden Pond” there. Good theater

Has to be the worse managed theater in NJ, along with Garden State 16 in Paramus. High schoolers run the place, know nothing of a movie experience. Just went there and left. Line was so long and not even moving. Two high schoolers taking their sweet time, talking to everyone and the ticket line grew even longer. A line out the door and the manager only kept two people at the box-office. By time you got your ticket the movie would have been playing for a half hour, even with 20 minutes of previews. People were leaving the line complaining that they’ll just rent it when it comes out on-demand. This wasn’t the first time this has happened at this theater. Also, the theater workers never close the doors to the theater and all the outside noise always comes in. I’ve gotten up many times to close the doors. Complete incompetency

Point of the matter is that the Angelika is always considered one of the best for a movie- goer, as an experience. I totally agree with stang119 and “Run Lola Run” was out years ago. Well, the theater has gotten worse. A gloomy, dank atmosphere, small uncomfortable theaters, no sound proof from the other theaters, let alone the subway and a high admission price. Worse movie theater experience of the year, I will NEVER go back there

zoe…you’re getting too technical for gods sake. The point was that the screen size was smaller than my TV screen. If you go to another theater (AMC-Ziegfeld etc.) it doesn’t matter the ratio, you’re getting a big screen experience. Why am I even explaining this cause you know what I mean!!!

The DCP presentation of THE GODFATHER was outstanding. Hope the good run continues

Let me add to my last comment. The subway going under the theater the whole time I realize nothing could be done but, I felt like I was in my apartment building and the neighbors had the stereo too loud. In other words, the soundproofing was non- existent as the movie from the next auditorium was fully heard. NEVER AGAIN will go there!

As a movie buff I was ashamed that I never have been to the Angelika NY. It seemed like it was THE place to see a movie and have true movie atmosphere. Well, the wait is over! After spending a whopping admission price, what I got was a dank depressing lobby atmosphere, an overpriced stale refreshment stand with popcorn that looks like it was there for a week. Going into the small theater, the uncomfortable chairs and I was thankful the house was pretty empty cause if someone sat in front of me my site would’ve been blocked, and then as the movie begins, the screen transforms to the widescreen panavision ratio that is smaller than my TV screen. The movie was good but I will NEVER go to the Angelika again. An overpriced horrible experience.

Certainly sounds like the death knell for Big Screen Classics.
