True story: I was watching The Prince of Tides here a few years ago. I was sitting toward the back and was there pretty much by myself. In front of me I was watching various audience members look down once in a while into the aisles. Shortly afterward I heard a loud squeeking. I looked down and about 12 inches from my feet was a very large rat. I jumped out of my seat and ran into the lobby. I asked for a manager and he told me that there was a big rat infestation in the theater because there was some kind of renovation work going on next door. I had him retrieve my coat and got my money back. Believe it or not, I did go back to the Biograph but sat with my feet tucked under me for the entire movie.

Having grown up in Berwyn in the late 60’s/early 70’s I saw a lot of movies here; however, I spent more time down the street at the Olympic. I remember that the Berwyn showed more first or second run films. The Olympic had great double bills. The Berwyn played more single features and was more expensive. I remember it being very dark inside. You really couldn’t get a good look at the interior features. As stated above, the floors were sticky and I remember the lobby as being very red. There was a very small Bohemian restaurant next door that I used to go to. Across the street was a store like a Woolworths (the name fails me). And on either side of Ridgeland was a drug store.

I saw some good movies here. As I recall the auditoriums were long and narrow. Of the 6 screens, I think only two auditoriums were equipped with Dolby sound. Very popular date-night movie spot.

These were nice, modern theaters when they fist opened. I saw a lot of big Hollywood films here. Sound and projection were for the time state-of-the-art (DTS and 70mm). After a couple of years, they started becoming run-down. The location was great. Decor was cookie-cutter Cineplex Odeon: mauve was the predominant color-scheme.

These theaters just went through a major rehab. The lobby areas are very nice and contemporary. However, the auditoriums are very shallow and like the previous poster states, you feel way too overwhelmed looking at the screen. Watching a movie here is very uncomfortable. It feels like sitting in the first few rows while watching an IMAX movie.
