@ChasSmith Glad you like the new site! That means a lot. :)
As for the incorrect orientation, this often happens with older photos which don’t have the correct orientation flags set.
As a temporary workaround, you can open the photo in an image editor like Photoshop, rotate the image yourself, and then reupload it.
And, if you already uploaded an incorrectly rotated photo, you can now delete that photo by going to the photo page and clicking on the ‘Remove this photo’ link at the bottom of the page.
@Tinseltoes We’re also going to add the ability to edit your comment in the next week or two, so that should make up the missing comment preview feature.
@Vito We just updated how usernames are displayed. If you edit your name on your profile, as you have done, your name will appear on all of your comments instead of your username.
I’ll look into the issues with the email notifications. Should have a fix for that this week sometime.
@spectrum You just won The Longest Feedback Comment Ever Award. Congratulations! ;)
But, seriously, thanks for the awesome feedback. I’ll try to respond to everything you asked about below.
We’re working on adding search by city. That should be available in the next week or so.
We’re also working on several other improvements to the new search which address some of the issues you raised.
Theater list page size: we’re sticking with 30 theaters per page for now, but we let you customize that in the future.
Theater list status: also sticking with just open/closed for now, but agreed it would be cool to show other information too. Probably unlikely to show seats and year built. It’s too much information for most people.
Updates page: we’re working on a way for you to quickly edit basic theater information like address, contact info, etc. Probably a few weeks away.
Additional fields: we can’t add the dates for when a theater was built, renovated, etc. right now… but we have something in mind for that.
Architectural styles: that’s a good question for Ross and Ken. So please email with that one.
More prominent link for “submit a theater”: agreed. We’re working on it!
The Challenge of New York City: and, indeed, it is a challenge. We can’t do that now. Maybe in the future.
Adjusting street view: if you find a botched street view, just email and we’ll reset it for you. Eventually, we’ll upgrade how street view saving works. This is just a start. :)
Default theater photo suggestions: we love suggestions. Just email them to and we’ll take a look.
Increase width of comments area: that’s unlikely to change for now.
As I just mentioned in my response to Ron, it will be a while before we can add support for ‘view all’ again… but we’re working on a ton of other improvements to the new search which should make the absence of ‘view all’ last painful.
@RonNewman Your theater submission will appear on the website soon. Just like on the old site, submissions are not posted until our theater editor Ken Roe has had a chance to review them first.
@RonNewman I’m looking into the issue with the new theater submission now. It should be fixed later today.
For now, we don’t support auto-linking URLs in comments just yet. If you do need to link something, use the Markdown link format for your comment links.
We’re actually going to post a blog post about this soon and explain how it works, but you can read the link above if you want to learn now.
@BradSmith To favorite a movie theater, just go to a theater page and click on the favorites heart on the upper right, just above the theater map. (And, of course, make sure you are logged in first.)
@Bway We’ve reset the street view for the Bushwick Theater. Can you update it for us now?
There’s no way to preview a comment before posting it. We’ll probably add that back in a few weeks.
In terms of default photos, for now, we select the most popular photograph for a theater. Eventually, as we get more photos, we’ll probably limit that to the most popular landscape photo… and we’ll also reserve the right to pick what we think is the best photo for a theater (which will override the most popular photo).
@RonNewman We’ll be adding the ability to update theater locations in the near future, but that’s not quite ready yet.
@mdvoskin We never promised that your username would be private. Usernames are inherently public. If you edit your profile information, you can add your full name too.
@RonNewman For now, due to technical reasons, there’s no way to manually add a streetview. As for showing your email address on your profile, we’re hoping to support that soon.
@RonNewman Street views are added automatically. To add a street view, we need a good address, map coordinates, and Google must have a street view available for those coordinates. If all of these conditions are right, we’re then able to show the street view.
@utzworld Thanks. We love updating the street views too. It’s addictive, isn’t it? ;)
@EdSolero Glad you like the new site. You shouldn’t need to resubscribe to comments. If you were subscribed to a theater before, you’re likely still subscribed now. But we are working on a way that will let you more easily see which theaters you follow. The comments have changed somewhat, so you’ll need to use a different type of code than before. We’ll have more detail about this later in the week.
@RonNewman That’s right, Ron. This is definitely a change from the old site. We got tons of complaints from people who kept getting notification emails about new comments. Many people never wanted these notifications or even thought they were spam… which caused us a lot of problems. So, now, you must subscribe to comments for a theater manually and you can easily see what your subscription status is.
@RonNewman That’s correct. A better way to say it would be… you no longer have to make a comment to subscribe to the comments on a theater. You can subscribe or unsubscribe whenever you like — without leaving a comment.
@need We’ll probably add the ability to edit comments soon.
@RonNewman For now, just email if you need us to reset a street view.
Great shot!

Thanks for your patience, everyone!
@EdSolero We’ve updated links in comments to open up a new window. Also, if you run across a broken street view, just email and we’ll reset it.
Great shot!

Thanks again for all of that great feedback!!!
@RonNewman It took a bit longer than expected, but we fixed the bug that you encountered on our new theater submission form.
You don’t need to re-add any theaters you submitted. But if you have any other theaters you need to add, you can do so safely now.
@Bway We’re glad to hear you like the new search!

@RonNewman We may consider restoring ‘view all’ down the road. But, for now, there are several technical reasons why that will not be happening soon.

@HowardBHaas. Yes, we’ll support editing photos soon. But probably not for another week or two at least.
The dreaded green photo returns!
@BradSmith To favorite a movie theater, just go to a theater page and click on the favorites heart on the upper right, just above the theater map. (And, of course, make sure you are logged in first.)
@Bway. Yeah, we’ll probably tweak the link colors soon. Thanks for your suggestion. Glad you love the new site! :D

This is the 1000th photo uploaded to Cinema Treasures!
