The reason they had ushers in the “good old days” is that there were double features and people would come done the aisles in the middle of one picture, watch the end of it, then the next picture and then the first half of the original picture. Neededthe ushers to help people find theseats in a the darkened theater.
If I Recall, there was an old painting on the outside brick wall of the theater that was probably done in the early 1900’s advertsing vaudville. I think the original name of the theater was not the State, perhaps the Orpheum? I think that the name of the theater was on the wall. What is on that site now?…anyone know?
You failed to list the State Theater which was down the side street from Quakenbush Department Store. There were actually 8 theaters in the 40’s and 50’s
does anyone remember the Regent Theater in Paterson, or the Rivoli, which was across the street from the Planter’s Peanut store where Mr.eanut would walk around.
there was never a movie theater on Route 4 Westbound other than Cinema 35 which no longer shows films. What theat across from the bridal shop are the people talking about.
The 10 Plex is badly run down and is way past its heyday.

I have a feeling that the “Green Hornet” is not going to do much at the box office.
Previews looked rather silly
If it were not for the “seniors”, the place would have closed years ago.
Security was, and is still terrible. I had a car stolen from the parking lot about ten years ago. Very poor lighting there.
Place needs a renovation after almost thirty years
Trouble is that the AMC just not show as many “indie” films as the Clairidge at any one particular time.
Went to the see the King’s Speech there on Xmas Day and they left the lights on in the theater during the entire film. Highly unusual and annoying.
Those were the days!
Expect low attendance for this film in Rockaway. Will do well at the Claridge in Montclair.
The small local theaters are becoming a thing of the past…very sad.
Eventually there will be no more left.
Time to move on here. Face the facts, it’s a goner!
Obviously there are none.
I went to the Paramount in the 50’s to see Alan Freed and his shows. I do not believe they also showed ie during the rock,n roll engagements.
I do not believe they had a movie showing during the rock'n roll shows in the 50’s. As I remember, there was only as show.
The theater is closed and demolished. The description should be changed to reflect this. Certainly not correct as is.
I went to Penn State in 1957-1958 and remember the Cathuam. Does anyone know when it closed?
Any update?

Vincent:
Actually, other than the I-Max theaters, there are no really wide screen theaters any more.
Actually, based upon “Alexander”, “Troy” etc., no one will be intere3sted in making any more “epic” type of films.
