Jodar, I agree with you. What most people to know or understand is the rent on those megaplexes. Running around $15.00 per square foot. Plus you need to take into account the other cost..labor, utilites etc. not to mention profit.
This looks like the Howard Theatre in Lebanon Pennsylvania. It too started out as a single screen and was twinned. The Howard was demolished in the early 2000’s.
I have read the article in the Express-Times….Let me ask this question. Why is it that Richard Wolfe owner of the Roxy in Northampton does well running a second run theater while the Franklin wasn’t doing well?
From what little I have read of Peter Wellman, he must have been quite the showman. The theatres that I have seen of his must have been extremely appealing. Does anyone know where I can find information on Wellman?
Hillary….after I posted, it dawned on me what a flat was. Thank you. Isn’t is something that man can build great things and then let them fall into reuins. Seeing photos on Cinema Treasures of movie theatres when they are new and have just been opened, and then seeing them in ruins really breaks the heart.
JimmiB….I didn’t know there were Messicks in Lebanon. I reside in Camp Hill. The fire that I am referring to is the HACC fire. I remember the “investor” who bought the Colonial at the tax sale. He claimed all he had was Social Security to live on. What is a painted flat?
The roof of the Colonial could have been repaired…buying it at a tax sell would have been a great buy….The roof could have been repaired and the building could have been saved. I don’t think the “Friend” were up to the challenge.
I drove past the Penway today. The building is for sale. Would make for a great movie theater.
Did I read there is a $12.00 fee to belong and get special deals?

If your going to build or own..you need to have large screens..not the size of postage stamps.
I would be ashamed to own that theater.
I can just imagine the size of the screens. Why would anyone want to go to see a movie on a small screen?

Not much of a lighting.
Now if the marquee was restored to what it looks like in the picture above..that would be so cool.
Anything happening at the Lorenzo?
Flix70 great pictures of the Village…Thanks for posting them.

JimmiB and Hillary…What do you remember of the State? What was it like on the inside?

JimmiB…Wasn’t there a fire in that block that took the Academy and several other buildings?
JimmiB, I don’t know you. I have never met John Heisey. Where do you reside?

Bet this was a beautiful theater when it open. You have to love the signage.
Excellant write up John. I always love reading your posts.
Thanks for sharing the picture Ross….I think as a child I was there for a Disney movie…I am betting it was a beautiful theater inside.
Your right it was a squeeker.
I am in total agreement with you Muviebuf.
Great job Bob. It kept my interest through the whole video. You voice was just right for this.
