theres always stories going aroundabout the hall, wishI was that popular!!lets wait till next year shall we??maybe they’ll hold the tonys at the disney theatre? possible?but..its not on broadway, maybe the renovated Beacon theatre?maybe they want to show it off?
ahh, whocares!!! i’m not gonna be there!
pace has their graduations ther too,I filled in for Eddie Layton one year& also the college of new Rochelle had graduation there a couple of years ago, don’t know if they still do george Wesner played for them as I recall
my fondest memories were cominto the stage entrance on51st street&coming in backstage, around the curtain, out onto the stage&pushing the out button on organ console prompt until it was all the way out&firing up the old girl &listening to her breathe a couple of minutes before i’d go upstairs and begin my tour of the organ chambers to make sure there were no problems to interfere with rhe days shows, gee that was greaaaaaaaaaat!!!!
my cousin &I were reminicing about this palace&how beautiful it was in the late50’s&early60’s, whats its fate now? low income housing seems really sad for this monument to entertainment what a shame!
where are the people that could restore it? guess i’m creaming
I remember going across the street for coffee& standing against wall so I could talk to the girls in line, I always made sure to ask the boss if I could do some organ work on these days thanks tinseltoes
brought back some fun memories for me
maybe they’ll count my wheel chair too, i’ve got a fat butt so maybe that counts as 2 seats!! the organ has 2 seats also, one for each console, but REndres is correct ,i spoke to friends there this past holiday run&hes right on the moneyfrom what i heard
old joe- u didn’t upset me its just that so many people constantly
claim they know this and that, i got that all the time regarding the organ, it seems theres better things to do with our time, my writing here is a waste of time i should be at the therapists working harder so i can return to my beloved music hall, maybe when i’m back i’ll go walk around and do an actual count Lord willing, anyhow best to all keep writing!!!we need more people caring about the place.
one day i got an emergency organ technician to the stageannouncement on the house system, the organist was trying to change a burned out bulb&the whole top came off &he was holing it from dropping into the audience,i won’t say who it was but it seemed comical how blown out he was, well, i changed the bulb returned the top&went back to our office/shop to wait for the nativity to start, always a fun part for problems on the organ
my boss Ron Bishop told me they used both consoles for glory of easter&his wife Emmie used to sit at the oposit prompt organ console, 50th street side to give the illusion of 2 organists playing
its quite a funny story when Ron tells it, in those days both Dick Liebert&Ray Bohr could handle the show by themselves being the great organists they were
a line got cut out, sorry, I said" there must be a curse on the organ"we all had something happen to us, my buddy&tech extraordinary
Ken ladner passed away,me with the Stroke Ray Bohr with lung cancer&so on
it was a load of fun watching the Christmas spectacular come together while I was there&listening to the Rockette rehearsals from the organ chambers, the orchesra rehearsals always brought tears to my eyes, plus my many late nights for george wesnerr&fred davies rehearsals on the organ, they were good guys and fun to work with, fred passed away last year in case anyone is interested, there I had a stroke, it goes on&on
I can’t begin to tell how depressed i’ve been since my stroke 4 years now the music hall was my 2nd home the people there are family
they are great, the music hall has a safe future from what I saw while I was there, everyone cares very much for its continued success&they work very hard to ensure it.my love to all of you who work there and read this.
radio city has really great people working therethat care for its operation, I
miss them dearly they’ve always offered me help where needed and kept me out of trouble, theres plenty of places one could get hurt if not alert, especially working on the Wurlitzer,so many tight spots
I’m 6'1" tall and banged my head more then one time taking care of an emergency sticking noteor other horror stories too many to write
of here
