It is just to bad that the UA was torn down i hope that the new theatre that is to be bult on BLK37 will pay respect in some way to the theatres that were on the spot before it .
KenC: Thank you for clearing that up for me , now here is the next question…Why did it play at the Chicago , McClurg Court and the Portage but not the UA?
Was the UA still owned by United Artists?
If i am right United Artists did not realy think that it was that good of a movie in the first place (meaning that it was not going to make a lot of money) , is this right ?
Which brings us full circle to the 1st question…Why did it not play at the UA ?
If any one can help i thank you :)
And KenC THANK YOU it help answer that question.
The Michael Mann flim “THIEF” (1981) staring James Cann,Tuesday Weld,James Belushi,Willie Nelson and Robert Prosky was released in the US on March 27 1981 the studio if i am right was UNITED ARTISTS my question is this did this movie “THIEF” play the UA on March 27 1981 the posting by JRS40 on May 1st 2007 stops on 12/19/1980 this movie was released in 1981 can any one help with this question?

The Brightion Park flower shop is gone and it is now dark looking for some one to rent or lease it .
I hope that it gets something in there that is use full and dose not destroy the bulding . If you look in the window you can see whare the name of the theatre is writen in the floor.
And you can also get your barings to whare the boxoffice was.
I am glad to see that their is going to be a movie theatre on State street once more. AMC River East 21 is a wonderful theatre but in this on on State Street will be easer to get to buy public transit.
Does any on know if thay are going to have some kind of history of the two movie theatres that were on Block 37 by that i mean the UA and the Roosevelt. One more thing what is it going to be named does anyone know or has any one heard anything?
I lived in Brightion Park in the 1970`s and i can not recall a Woolworths? i do recall that the corner of Sac/Archer as you face the fire house was a taveren and what is Zemkeys was the archer ave big store. then (as you stand by the bank facing the archer ave big store)to you right was if i am right a dollar store then next to that was the fannie may candies, and across the streeet (whare Watra is now) was a furturnure store than next to that was a jeweler and then the Brightion Park Theatre.
The area has changed the only thing that can recall that is still there is THE PANTS BOX the LIQURE STORE that was next door and the RESTURANT i think it is call the GOLDEN DOLLAR or something like that .
One more thing whare was NEISNERS and ware was WOOLWORTHS at ?
An up date for you know the flower shop from what i have seen seams to have closed . What is going in their i do not know.
But if i am correct if you get up close to the window and look tord the back of the shop look to the floor and you can see the name “CRANE” written in mosacice tile on the floor i rember this from the flower shop days and if i am wright it is still their.
Does any on recall any other theatres along Harlem Ave.
In Norridge i rember going to see “MI VIDA LOCA” back in the 90`s with some friends and the only place showing theis flim was a small place on North Harlem Ave. it was small only one screen the best example i can give would be the LaGrange Theatre in LaGrange Illinois. I was in Norrige a few days ago and i could not find the theatre i think it was before the intersection of North Harlem And Irvin Park Road .
I also recall that once you bought the pop and popcorn (i just love this this part) FREE REFILLS!!!!
Thank You for you time .
I hope some one can help with this . :)

Great pic.
Whare was the gap store i mean was the theatre walled off and the store buld on the front. With the theatre in the back?
I am SO very great full that some one took it over and it will once more be used for preformances .
In a small way you can understand the Paradise Theatre and the Nortown, and the Ramova, and in a sort a bout way the UA.
What i mean by that is the Atmospheric style like the Paridise,Nortown, and Romova and the Moorish style like the UA
But i am happy that it will be open once more .
Thank you for your time :)
Just like the song says “ Pave paradise, put up a parking lot”
Hartbreaking and very sad 1st the Esqurie and now this :(

IT is sad to see the NORTOWN go but it is good that the salvage co. is taking time to remove the parts.
Batwoman :
I saw it on WGN CH 9 it was a short peace but it might be on the web . It was on the 9pm broadcast on saturday Aug 4th 2007.
Just saw on the news that NORTOWN is being torn down an in it place will go what else CONDOS . And from what i have herd romm for 2 smaller theatres .
It is a sad day when great places like this are replaced with CONDOS and all that is left is a foot note to history.
SO SAD :( Thank you for your time .
It may have been i always recall it as the Forest City it could have ben a clothing store it sure is big enuff. :)

Just some information that i have found on the Rapp Bros.
The brothers were born in Carbondale, Illinois
C.W established his own practice around 1891
George was a grad. from the University of Illinois he graduated in 1899 with a dereee in Architecture.
In 1906 the brothers founded the firm Rapp and Rapp
In 1917 thay started to design for Balaban and Katz
The firm designed more than 300 theatres
The firm was dissolved in 1965.
Just thought that some one could use this information thank you for you time. :)
