The November 15, 1947, issue of Boxoffice said that 5000 people turned out for the well-publicized grand opening of the Circle Theatre. A live outdoor show was presented as well as an indoor stage show, featuring such regional celebrities as Ernest Tubb and his Grand Ole Opry show. Interstate Theatres even presented a fireworks display to give their new house a proper launch.

It looks like it’s now a Latino club. I remember back in the early 80’s it was a club/concert hall called The Ritz. The seats were all gone, obviously, but a lot of the interior murals and grand staircases were still there back then. Wonder what the interior looks like now.
The restaurant was the Spanish Galleon, and yes, it was built like a ship on the outside and had all kinds of nets and rigging inside as the decor. There was another one at Lemmon and N. Hall streets in the 70’s, I think. Also, the Circle Inn came down a few years ago.
I remember going to the Circle as a kid in 1960s. Today it sort of sits all by its lonesome but back then, Northwest highway actually had the circle intersection and there was a motel called the Circle Inn or something, and a Circle Bowling alley. At one time there was a seafood restaurant that I want to say was called ‘The Galleon’ that sat next to the roundabout (circle intersection) that was built to look like an old sailing ship.
It may be curtains for the iconic old Circle Theater building in Dallas. It appears to be in the construction path of a new commuter rail line. More images here, here and here.

Here’s one of mine from December 2008.
The Circle is the only building on a short section of the 2100 block of Storey Lane making “2100” a close general address.
A “bingo security guard” ran me out when I crossed the fence with a camera and approached the theater for a closer look.
For a brief time in the 1960s, this theater often played features day / dated with the Lakewood—which makes perfect sense since they were on the complete opposite sides of town. Often adult arty films and stuff like “David and Lisa”. Forgotten 60s stuff…

This theater is obviously not a 1930s building. Anyone out there know of another Circle Theater in Dallas.

They still turn the neon on at times when open for bingo.

CIRCLE THEATRE, Inc., v. GRANT et al.
This appeal is from a judgment rendered against appellant Circle Theatre, Inc. in favor of appellee Eula Mae Grant for $200 as damages for personal injuries. It appears from the record that in May, 1930, the appellant was operating a picture show in the city of Dallas which was attended by a large number of people. The appellee alleges that she attended the show and took her seat somewhere near the center of the building, that during the performance some one down near the front of the building yelled “Fire!” and that, while people were attempting to make their exit from the building, she was knocked down and trampled upon. She charged negligence on the part of the appellant in permitting large numbers of people to stand in the aisles of the theater during the performances. In answer to special issues submitted, the jury found that the appellant was guilty of negligence in permitting the aisles of the building to be crowded, and that such negligence was the proximate cause of the plaintiff’s injuries.

Dallas has lost so many great places.This was one.Question for any locals.What has happened to the old theater on the square in McKinney?I remember going to a theater E of Preston on Spring Valley,one on Preston just N of Belt Line.That was where I saw Animal House first run.You don’t forget moments like that.
