I reside in the San fernando Valley not far from this theatre. I drove by the other day and noticed the place is currently closed. The traveling circus taking up residency in the parking lot is open, though! There’s a big sign on the building encouraging patrons to visit the other Regency locations.
All the UA’s in the greater Los Angeles area had that funky film bookings.
UA Egyptian 1,2,3 (Hollywood)
UA Cinema Center (Westwood)
UA Marina Del Rey
UA North Hollywood
UA Warner Center (Woodland Hills)
And they would run all those midnight type movies on Fri & Sat nights.
Rocky Horror Picture Show
Dawn of the Dead
Song Remains the Same
I lived near this theater growing up in the late 70’s and early 80’s in North Hollywood.
I remember seeing the original DAWN OF THE DEAD when it first opened in 1979. The best thing about it was that the ushers and popcorn counter girls were all dressed up like zombies (fake blood and white face paint)! It was great!
I also remember seeing the original HALLOWEEN here. I was very young and I got so scared that I ran out of the theater and wouldn’t go back to watch the rest. My mom had to take me into SKATETOWN U.S.A. instead.
A couple of years later (i think in 1980 or 81), they showed MANIAC there. I begged my dad to take me and they wouldn’t let me in since it was “No One Under 17 Allowed”. I was probably around 8 or 9 and i started crying. I wanted to see it so bad. The box office people probably thought i had problems… a little kid having a tantrem cuz i couldn’t see MANIAC!!! We ended up seeing COAL MINER’S DAUGHTER instead. On a bathroom break, i tried to sneak into MANIAC but got caught. It was pretty funny.
The best thing about the UA was that they showed so many differen’t types of movies… from Blockbusters to seedy little exploitation flicks.
THOSE WERE THE DAYS!!!
I saw Volcano at this theater in 1997. Nothing memorable comes to mind.
Yea, the status on this theatre should be OPEN. It is a 2nd run
I live but 5 minutes away from this theater since 2003. I had been going to see films there even before i moved to North Hollywod. If you actually go there and see it is still open then maybe you might see there are new releases played there and operates as a standard movie theater.
Regency Theatres has reopened this theatre. However, it appears most of the films are second-run movies. Don’t know if they remodeled, etc.
The area that this theater was/is located in wasn’t the cause of the decline nor the problems at this theater. Sorry to say…. The place was a dump!

Having lived in the San Fernando Valley most of my life and most of that time in the East San Fernando Valley not to far from the UA in North Hollywood I am surprised that the last time I saw a movie here was in 1986. It was a midnight showing of the “Rocky Horror Picture Show.” But then I think about it and I remember even then the theater was kind of shabby and uneventful and over the past twenty years the area has really declined. But I also did not know this theater had only recently closed.
This theatre, the UA Valley Plaza 6, was known as UA Movies from 1979 to 1995 and was located at 6355 Bellingham Avenue, Valley Plaza, North Hollywood CA 91606. It was equipped to show 70mm films as well.
THE LAST DAY OF BUSINESS WAS THURSDAY, 9/23. WORD HAS IT REGAL ENTERTAINMENT HAS REPORTEDLY FOUND A NEW OPERATOR. THE WRITING HAD BEEN ON THE WALL FOR SOME TIME. I AM AMAZED THE THEATRE STAYED OPEN THIS LONG. THERE WAS NEVER MORE THAN 20 PEOPLE IN AN AUDITORIUM AT ANY GIVEN. ALSO, THE THEATRE WAS IN HORRIBLE CONDITION… NEEDING A PAINT JOB, NEW SEATS, ETC.
When did this theatre close? It was open pretty recently.
And it was a typical 80’s UA located in the Valley Plaza.
