Sorry to hear this. Why did they close? Are they still open for private rentals (as advertised on their web site)?

The theatre has closed, apparently around Nov. 1st, or possibly a little earlier. I don’t know what the last movies were.

Yes, they produce shows on stage 3 or 4 times per year, especially during the Christmas season, and each show runs for a few performances.

Their web site says that a community theatre group, Little Theatre of Stoughton, still presents live shows here.

It was indeed run by Interstate Theatre Corp. of Boston and is listed under their management in the 1942-43 Motion Picture Almanac. Its name at that time was State Theatre. I recall that some time in the early or mid-1980s, the noted actor James Whittemore appeared on stage in a play at the Stoughton Theatre. I think it was a one or two week engagement and the play ran in Stoughton instead of at a theatre in Boston.

The Stoughton Cinema, along with the Norwood Theatre (and, I believe, 11 other screens), was at one time operated by C&F Theatres, headquartered on Wood Rd in Braintree.
I was the manager from October ‘72 through November '73, when the chain ceased operations.

It’s odd that the sign reads “Cinema Pub Theatres”, plural. This is a single screen.

This was owned by the Entertainment Cinemas chain for several years. I don’t know if it still is.

Was this theatre formerly known as the State, or was that another theatre?
