Can anyone confirm if the Syosset’s Spring 1965 run of “Cheyenne Autumn” played all the way up to the late-June booking of “The Sound of Music,” or was there a booking(s) in between them?

Coate…It opened there Dec 9 and ran for 2 weeks, ahead of the area neighborhood break that started on Christmas day. It was not reserved seats.

I’m aware “Oklahoma!” was screened here once for the theater’s grand opening in November 1956, but how long did it play when it returned a few weeks later for an actual multi-week (reserved-seat?) booking? Anyone know? NYer?

Does anyone from the NYC/Long Island region have access to Newsday (or other Long Island newspaper) on microfilm? I’m seeking confirmation of the closing date of the roadshow run of “Funny Girl” at the Syosset Theater. Did “Funny Girl” play right up to the Jan 28th, 1970 opening of “Paint Your Wagon”?

The Syosset was a great theater with super projection and wonderful site lines. They were THE theater on Long Island for platform releases. Usually in 70MM and amazing sound. My favorite was seeing THE TOWERING INFERNO on opening weekend. Waited in line for hours and then the show was packed. Although the Syosset was not one of the grand old movie palaces, every film felt special in this auditorium.

Hi Bloop Alien played there in a 70mm exclusive engagement. Animal House also opened there exclusively.

was “Alien” some sort of exclusive to Syosset in 1979? Me and my then high school girlfriend drove there to see it. We lived in East Northport so for the life of me, I cannot think of why we didn’t see it in Commack or Huntington? (the Larkfield theater would NEVER get a new bit hit movie-yet we could walk to our homes from it! LOL) Ditto “Animal House” from the same year. This theater reminded me of the original Shore in Huntington before it was a “1 & 2”.

LOL SMOKING on Lorelei and or Linda. My Boxoffice girls had the hardest time giving direction to our theatre,And they ALl lived here there whole lives.Loved the Theatre Business.

On second thought, I think it wasn’t Lorelei with the pronunciation issue with Apocalypse. It may have been Linda. Still a funny memory.

I worked Apocalypse Now for many sold out weeks. My memory could be faulty, but I think it was indeed in 70MM and Dolby.

One of the girls in the ticket booth (I think it was Lorelei, but not sure anymore) had trouble pronouncing “Apocalypse” (ockapockalips, etc.) when people called for information, so Lenny Kaplan taught her to pronounce it by pointing to his pocket and his lips. A pocket lips. Close enough.

In70mm.com has a list of theatres that showed APOCALYPSE NOW in 70mm in 1979. This Syosset Theatre is NOT on that list. Does this mean Syosset ran a 35mm, or is the list wrong?

Interesting – No one mentioned the 70mm screening of “Apocalypse Now” in 1979 at UA Syosset. I went to a matinee with a SHS class and thought is was weird that they gave out the credits on paper. I thought there was going to be a test on the movie the next day.

I was the mgr of the Cinema 150 and assiste Mary McCarthy when needed at the Syosset theatre..Great memories at both theatres…good times…fun softball games…good people…Mary is a classy lady and is still going strong helpin out at the westbury drive-in -stadium theatre…drop in and say Hi…Great memories of fighting the Rocky crowds…..had fun inthe theatres…Meadowbrook..pequa..lindenhurst…manhassett..Cinema 150..Home Office…UA Summer picnic…driving “SMH”
