Do they still allow you to cross dress?
I loved to cd there, a few years ago. Would like to do so again.

This theatre is not in Jackson Heights. The neighborhood boundary according to the local Community Board and post office is two blocks south at Northern Boulevard. The Fair, at Astoria Boulevard and 90th, is in East Elmhurst, ZIP 11369. Jackson Heights is 11372.
Yesterday while at the theater I spoke with some staff and the manager about the rumors concerning the sale of the building. I was told that it is not true, the Fair will not be closing down any time soon. It is the last of its kind in the area. I get the feeling that the employees seem to take pride in the place.
I wonder where the original box office was
I have heard rumors that the block where the theatre is has been sold and will be demolished. Has anyone heard anything like this?
I don’t know if theatre management reads these comments, but if they do…then they must have seen the remarks I made back in October 2010, when I criticized the hideous appearance of those relamped “F-A-I-R” letters atop the marquee. I am pleased to say that, recently, ALL of those ugly screw-base CFLs have been replaced by the soft amber glow of old-fashioned Edison-style incandescent S14 sign bulbs…the ORIGINAL look is back…and what a difference in appearance!

MarkieS, the classic films sound great. And I like Bollywood and Kung Fu. Porn, I don’t want to see with strangers.
But HOW do you know what is playing so you can plan ahead? I just called and they have no recording, and the website has no information. I told the box office guy he would get more business if people knew what they are playing. I’m not traveling so I only know what is playing when I get there.

The inside is actually very clean and neat. In the main auditorium, they show everything from James Bond to The Sound of Music. In the back screening rooms, they show porn, both gay and straight. Believe it or not, it’s not sleazy. There are very friendly people there, including the staff. However, if you’re going JUST to see a movie, it IS 15 bucks.
What’s playing at the Roxy? I’ll tell you what’s playing at the Roxy. A picture about a Minnesota man falls in love with a Mississippi girl That he sacrifices everything and moves all the way to Biloxi. That’s what’s playing at the Roxy.
At the Fair, however, it’s more likely to be a double feature of Acres of Ass and Nudies go Berserk. Or variations thereof. And really, who is watching the screens anyway?
How do you know what is playing? The website isn’t updated, the Marque just says new shows twice a week.
I’ve passed by the Fair now and again, but never bought a ticket. What can I expect to see, and what is the inside like?

full length mirrors, that’s an interesting concept. I would’ve loved to attend the Super Bowl party at the Fair, wow. Porn, football, donuts and socializing – just like my activities at home…
The Fair has been sprucing up! Full length mirrors have been added to the booths. All the furniture (couches and chairs) have been replaced in the front, making things alot more comfortable. The theatre hosted both Super Bowl and Oscar parties, showing both events on the big screen. Along with this,free pizza, donuts and coffee. As a friend of mine said, at only 5 bucks a pop (if you buy a discount book) this place is the best bargain in NYC! Aside from the Staten Island Ferry of course!

And I thought the Castro here in San Francisco had a decent sense of community! I’m profoundly impressed.

One VERY noticeable change is the marquee â€" it could be used as a landing marker for nearby LaGuardia Airport. The old “Edison-style†(incandescent) tinted bulbs that spelled “FAIR†have been replaced with incredibly bright screw-base CFLs in a ghastly yellow-ochre color. You could spot it from a plane, not to mention the far depths of Astoria Boulevard!
Upon close inspection, the bulbs don’t even look suitable for outdoor use (they are the unprotected “cone-shaped†type commonly used indoors and in enclosed outdoor fixtures). They were installed this summer – how they will operate or survive in extreme cold or harsh winter weather conditions is anyone’s guess. This isn’t the first time that the owners have made questionable (i.e. tacky) choices that are supposed to pass as “upgradesâ€.
I applaud management’s initiative for trying to save energy AND at the same time brighten up the old marquee, but to me it’s extreme overkill. Couldn’t they have used lower-wattage bulbs in a more subdued color? (To my eyes, it loses its authenticity) In comparison, the older bulbs, with their soft orange-amber glow, made the marquee look somewhat dull and tired, yet at the same time warm and inviting – that was part of its vintage charm.
Speaking of excess…they should remove the numerous oversized Indian movie posters that are randomly hanging above the marquee. They are covering up the facade’s decorative brickwork – and the movies aren’t even playing there anymore.
If you want to “dress up” the place, start by cleaning the brickwork, then install some decorative (yet tasteful) architectural accent lighting.
I was just there today. The security is there basically to keep the place clean. You can go into a booth with whoever you want and have plenty of privacy. Just can’t do anything in public spaces.

I live like a mile down, and wanna go For the first time, do i go and say “can I get a ticket to view porn?”.lol its not everyday one finds himself visiting adult theatre! or is it a standard fifteen and just go in to whereever?
maybe, they’re just not as fun!
