The Sepulveda Drive In was originally behind the Sherwin Williams paint store (now where Wendys is) down the Boulevard from the Builders Emporium (also long gone). In 1968 there was a movie about a teenage sniper filmed there titled ‘Targets’ which starred Boris Karloff. If you ever get a chance to see it, it has many panoramic views of the Drive in, the Valley towards Canoga Park/Reseda, Sepulveda Blvd, the Dam Basin (when it was still Maria’s cornfield) and plenty of cool cars.

The small marquee is – or was – just behing Wendys parking lot.
There is no evidence of any drive-on at this site, just a very large parking lot.

I just drove by that location last week. I will look for the marquee (if it still exists) when I go to Van Nuys next Monday.
The Sepulveda Drive-In was behind a Wendy’s, not a Carls Jr. (the latter is a quarter-mile farther north).
It is no longer a storage area, but the property is owned by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority and will be used as a park-ride lot for a cross-Valley rapid transit line this summer.
I went to see “Everybody’s All American” here my sophmore year of college in the late 1980’s not too long before it closed. Recently I did notice a small marquee for theater still existed just off Sepulveda Blvd.
Opened in 1953, and closed in August of 1989. The site was demolished, but as of Summer 2003, the ticket booths and projection building still sand.
