Ross M you need to create a like button like we have on Facebook because I love your response and comment. Markp I agree Cinemark should level this theater and either take a loss of start from scratch and build a new more modern multiplex that would have no reminder of the tragedy.

As someone who has worked continuously for the past 36 years in the industry, from single screen to multiplexes, I cant see how this theatre could ever be reopened. I know myself, I would never want to step foot in there. I think Cinemark should just cut their losses, and as sad and horrific this incident was, they should just level the complex and move on. Just one mans opinion.

Did you hear there is a guy who was in the theatre that night and wants to sue the theatre…He wasn’t even hurt. How do we know if he was even there…and in NY we thought our only problem was our nanny Mayor wants us to stop selling 32oz soda.. I do think Moviebuff82 is right…

Absolutely incredible what happened here. I find it extremely hard to believe that someone is capable of committing such a tragedy. It really bothers me that these people were just trying to see a movie and enjoy a night out. My heart truly goes out to all the affected family members and friends of the victims and to those that witnessed this event. It’s a crazy world! I don’t think going to the theater will ever be the same for me. I will be watchful and aware of everything that is going on.

I’m pretty darn sure Cinemark will remodel the whole place. I think they HAVE to. How else will people get over going back there? #9 will probably be turned into an XD theatre with leather seats and huge screen.

I used to do audits at this theatre every chance I could. (I love Denver). I can close my eyes and see exactly what things look like. I used to spend hours at that theatre early in the morning and late at night. What’s also creepy is that the theatre is nearly identical to four other Centurys so I’m sure people working at those can imagine as well.

I am really sad – I almost went to this theatre a few years ago while on business in Denver. I really hope NATO does something (they way they did after 9/11) to help the victims with a night where the proceeds are donated to help those especially those that may have lifetime disabilities as a result of this disgusting horrific terrorist act. The cinema for me is a sacred space, it’s a place where anything can happen (on screen) and where you go to leave your life behind and see the world in someone else’s eyes for 2 hours.

With that said, I’m not sure what the future of the complex will be: on one hand the show must go on, we must not let this terrorist win (I know he’s not a “terrorist” in the traditional sense, but he is a heartless cruel mass murder). I’m not sure if the complex can reopen, certainly not Theatre 9. Theatre 9 has really lost that magic forever – I’m interested to see what Cinemark will do next with this cinema, which once upon a time – less than a week ago, was just another modern big box multiplex in the suburbs.

Did the gunman reenter thru the exit door? The way he was decked out he couldn’t have come back in thru the lobby (or could he). A number of NY metropolitan theatres have metal detectors. Sad commentary on the times in which we live. School and theatre shootings; people being trampled to death at the opening of a special sale. And all the hype about new products being introduced at midnight. Outrageous hours for special sales. What’s the big deal about being the first? In the day there was an age requirement for movies and other events. I’m sure the 3 month old would have really appreciated the movie and the 6 year old would have been terrified (and, parenthetically, the audience would have been pissed by screaming children). This movie was not rated G, was it? It’s also interesting that some people who escaped the Century went to see the movie at another multiplex in town the next day which appeared to be empty.

I agree with some of the above. This is not the place to discuss todays news. That belongs on facebook or other news sights. But to continue, what are a 3 month old and a 6 year old doing at a midnight showing. That is the parents fault. I remember all the hoopla that happened when “The Warriors” opened so many years ago. All the stabbings and fights that occured in the theatres at that time all over the country not just in one place. I hope the planned re-make of this movie never takes place because they WILL make the movie more violent, more graphic and terrible language. Lets not blame this incident on the movie or the theatre. This is todays society. Look at the recent massacres in Canada and Alabama. So once again lets get the news off of these entertainment type sights and back on to the news sights. By the way some of the problems when the “Warriors” came out were right here in Massachusetts.

I can’t help thinking about the kids at last night’s THE DARK KNIGHT RISES screening in Aurora, Colorado. How excited they must have been – perhaps they were anticipating it all day before loading up into the car and going to the movies. We’ve all been there. I feel something like that every time I sit down to a new movie, and especially the big ones like this, I always feel like a kid again.

This tragedy has struck the heart of our community. These people are us. Who else goes to midnight screenings but we crazy few movie geeks – yes, even Batman movies – and that excitement is palpable. I wish I could bottle it for the bad days, because it’s one of those times in my life where true joy is found. Going to the movies is my favorite thing in the world, other than spending time with my family and friends. It’s literally what I live for.

This weekend, go to a movie. No, it’s not about keeping the bad guys from winning, or making a statement, although if you want it to be, that’s okay. Go to the movies this weekend because it’s a joy. One of the last great joys we have left these days, it seems. Plant youself in a theater, and see whatever you fancy. It’s the place dreams come true. It’s the magic land. That screen isn’t a window – it’s a door. An inviting door that lets in everyone. All are welcome in that world, and we get to wonder in the power of imagination and beauty.

I don’t normally post like this and I’m sorry if this upsets some of you. I’m grieving for the losses in Aurora, Colorado, and I am trying very hard not to play the political games of finding where to put blame. This community took a real loss today, and I mourn those who were killed, pray for the wounded, and celebrate that magic that we all chase every time we sit down in a movie theater. Theaters are my church, and today we’re all hurting.

I love movies, and you do too. Let’s celebrate them.

I think it is one thing to add an historical note about a crime – historical or contemporary – that occured at a theater. It is another matter to use a theater’s comments page as a blog about the incident or a condolence page or to ruminate about what theaters in general should do to keep this senseless nightmare from happening again. I am not against these discussions, quite the contrary, but I do think they should be conducted elsewhere.

WHy would someone bring a 3 motnh old baby to a midnight movie? That is really stupid.
