The Embassy was in business from 1945 at least.
In 1963, the Park Theater in Gardena was operated by Grand Theatres, Inc. President was Harry Milstein. Grand Theaters also operated the Grand and Stadium in Torrance.
Thanks to Lost Memory, I was able to find this one here at Cinema Treasures. My brother and I went to this theater a few times in the ‘60s when it was the Park Theater. We always stopped first at the nearby Savon Drug Store to buy packages of candy – six for $.25 – before the show. The only movie I can positively remember seeing is “Farenheit 451.” Wish I could recall others. Just another piece of my childhood puzzle that’s come to fit together. :–)
There was a theatre called the Embassy located in Gardena at one time.
I don’t think it’s on CT – no aka in the system. I’m going to add it. I don’t think it showed porno films for the entire 24 years.
Showing first run films when I drove by last week.
LA Times reports in 1998 that the Little Fox theater in Gardena was converted to a church after 24 years of showing adult films. Address given as 140th and Vermont. Anybody heard of this theater?
As of 6-3-07 The Gardena Cinema has filthy carpets which smell, concrete under somewhat smaller than the norm chairs, small run down bathrooms, and a subpar snack bar, which has repeated serve us stale popcorn, hard buns on out hot dogs, and semi flat sodas. The staff tend to be rude. We went there 10 years, and have finally had it. Never again.
This theater was showing Korean or possibly Japanese movies a few years ago. I haven’t driven by in a while, but they seem to vacillate between art films, foreign films and the occasional first run film.

I used to go here in the mid 50’s. I saw Snow White, Bambi, and 101 Dalmations hear. The kiddie matinees were a riot. As I recall there was a balcony and a cry room at the time.
