It is sad that The Landmark booked Blade Runner last October as the National said its final goodbye. I have not been to the Landmark and have no plans to ever visit it. Re: The Grove; I cannot stand it either. Pretty much the only L.A. theatres I like are the Village, Bruin, Grauman’s Chinese and Arclight, and am glad to have them all (still). I just spent a week in NYC; they only really have the Ziegfield theatre left, so I should not complain too loudly. I’m getting to the point that I’d rather stay home and watch Blu Ray. Movie theatres have become truly miserable.
2nd most overrated theatre in the city (Pacific’s The Grove is the 1st!). How this overdecadent arthouse got Blade Runner is beyond me. Joint’s nothing more than a film snob’s paradise.
Very slow at this theater last night – few patrons visible.
Might get a job here after the closing of the NuWilshire next month.
Blade Runner final cut is playing there now, if any one is interested. I liked the film but I never had the fascination that others seem to have.
Are all the screens common width? What a waste.
Judging by the pictures on the website, their (presumably) largest auditorium doesn’t look all that much different from the Landmark’s we have here in DC. The auditorium with the couches looks interesting and probably comfortable for those films they might show that are over 2 ½ hours.
If the early comments on the quality of projection and sound are any indication, I guess its fair to say that the local Arclight is in no danger of being eclipsed by this venue.
Do they have curtains on the screens? Curved screens? Big Candy counter? Easy Bathroom Crowd Control? NO NO NO NO!
If this is Landmark’s flagship theater, I imagine they have the much talked about 4K Digital projectors installed?
It’s about the same spot where the Picwood and the bowling alley used to be.
The Landmark complex is located in the west building of the Westside Pavilion. Near the former sites of Pacific’s Picwood Theatre and the Drive-In.
Some early reviews by Landmark patrons were less than glowing. Problems with sound and with the staff. This is third hand as I haven’t been to this theater yet.
