My cousin worked for REGAL when they bought out UA.He said they snooped around checking his credit all kinds of crazy stuff. He wouldn’t say it, but I know he hated that KNOXVILLE,TENN,homegrown theatre chain.

Probably couldn’t have gotten hired with them…some people had put my name on a very bad list :)

I don’t even remember who the projectionist was when I was there. I only worked there for a few months. I worked at North Dekalb Twin during the day and at the drive in at night while my husband was managing Twelve Oaks. Drive Ins are so different…especially if you work in the box office. You are so cut off from everybody else. I didn’t care for it.

i have a picture of the Projectionist there he looked like he was a vetran of the booth, not some teenager.

I think you will really like CT when you get to talking with other theatre people from around the world.and It will happen.one of them will come across usually a crazy story and comment. Most likely,“HEY,Robin that happened here but on a different night!”

Well…it’s kind of a long story. I think at one time I was known as the Yoko Ono of the Atlanta Theatre world! Haha You’ll hear all about it! I had to find Bill through his son Britt on Facebook!

Good Golly,Robin you worked in a DRIVE-In. You must have worked for several chains. You are more of a old theatre dawg than me. I figured you worked at NATIONAL HILLS and got pluggedin everywhere else for Plitt theatres like I did.I never even realized you guys went to ATL with MR.Anderson.Maybe BIll Told me. You can blame him for not inviting you all to our big 1985 1986 reunions. I know his daughter should have been able to find someone becuse she knew you all.

Hahaha…Mike, you’re not going to believe it but I worked here for a little while too! I do have a great memory of this place. I worked out at the box office and the bugs were TERRIBLE! One night they were so bad I hit the button to call Mr. Harvey the manager to come do something about it. Well, he thought I was being robbed and brought the police with him! I didn’t stay there long…Mr. Harvey was a great guy though.

The Atlanta paper had big article on the closing with pictures not only of the Drive in ,but also the Projectionist who had been employeed there for years according to the paper. Of course, i cut out the article and have it somewhere in a box of theatre stuff.

A friend of mine salvaged one side of the ‘North 85’ shield-shaped sign after it was torn down. It was shattered, but he took the pieces home, glued them back together, and now the sign is affixed to the back of his house. He’s a member of this site, I’m surprised he hasn’t added any comments to this thread about it (perhaps he is worried about any possible legal repercussions of his trespassing/salvaging, but I doubt that anyone would care…plus the statute of limitations is long over, I’m sure).

The photo above displaying the width of the screen during the conversion to a twin looks enormous! Was this the actual width of the screen before it was split?
