you would think national amusements could have turned the theatre into a art house,a kiddie movie place or done something else into the place. when the building went up for sale the theatre was sold to a car dealership who latter sold it to the fireplace business. Again the staff and manager was extremely polite.

I agree that it was a pretty nice place, with less hysteria and madness than the biggerplex across the street had. Here is a photo of it now.

The 1-10 added two screens in early 1999, hence the switch here from “9-10” to “11-12”. Not sure when it was closed.

Yes, the original building still stands, with some addition in the rear. It is now a store/showroom called Fireplace Showcase. Showcase, get it? Like the cinema it once was. Looks like the original theatrical lettering for “Showcase” on the front was kept, with “Fireplace” added in the same style.

Does this building still stand? If so, what is it now?

I saw the Stephen Frears' film The Grifters here in February, 1991. I have a note that the place was called Showcase Cinemas Seekonk 9-10 at the time. Perhaps the larger place across the street subdivided subsequently and they had to rename this twinner 11-12. Go figure.
