I am also SHOCKED and dismayed that such a sleazy establishment that masquerades as a theatre is permitted to exist on here. Even a theatre that only showed pornographic films would be acceptable. This theatre resides outside those boundarys and should be removed. The person that added this theatre should be ashamed.
My initial preference would be not to list venues that were used -only- as porn houses during their entire lives.
But then you’d have to take the O'Farrell off this site, despite its colorful history (at least one book and one movie have been made about it). And you’d have to remove the South Station, where Pink Flamingos premiered in Boston and legendary art-film booker George Mansour got his start.

Anyway Tearoom’s entrance is s storefront but when you do enter the main auditorium it is a relative medium sized screen surrounded by chairs…

I do understand the pro and the con of everyone’s concerns. However, the Cinema Treasures website does list many X rated movie houses that perhaps are NOW PORNO but were NOT PORNO when built of created or perhaps were PORNO for awhile – then stopped, went legit and then went back to porn etc. These however are “real” movie houses not converted storefronts, true. Then too, I have seen many converted building listed on this site – such as the CENTRAL CINEMA in Alameda CA. This was a funeral home that the new operator took over and managed to convert the chapel into a 42 seat auditorium. The projectors are in the choir loft. This is now on CINEMA TREASURES.
I don’t know how you can or cannot list all of these venues. They
are theatres of sorts – only on a technical level, but, legally, yep they are a defined theatre. Tough one guys/gals.
Pornographic theatres are theatres that show adult movies. I do not have a quarrel with those theatres. This theatre indulges in sexual conduct. Shall we now list strip clubs and brothels here. Perhaps a sleazy hotel where a hooker takes her customer should be listed because an adult video is playing on the television set during the act. This is not a movie theatre regardless of your definition. If you consider this a movie theatre your knowledge of theatres is close to nil.
Then why not remove all entries for adult theatres, regardless of their historical import or academic value? I went into the Front Door down in Long Beach with my girlfriend a few nights ago and it was purely an exploratory trip for us. Future generations will be exceedingly curious about us puny humans stuck in the past precisely because of our garbage…

longislandmovies, when I first read about this theatre I was going to write the SAME THING. I feel all theatres belong on here, whos to say which to leave off. Many old palaces survived because they were porno for many years.
