what’s the latest on the classics? What movies will be playing there? I hope they show “The Matrix” next year since it’s the 10th anniversary of that movie!!!

Looks like the movie that I mentioned last post will still be playing for quite some time as it is the number 1 movie in America during a Super Bowl weekend. This is a message to all theaters wanting a piece of the 3D action. Take that, Beowulf!!! Both this theater, as well as Parsippany and select Clearviews, will play “Hanna Montana 3D” until the audience peters out.

This weekend, National Treasure is still playing in DLP, that is, until Cloverfield comes out. That film was shot on Panavision Genesis cameras, which were the same equipment used to film Superman Returns and Click. Panavision Genesis is the HD version of Panavision and can be transferred to regular film as well as digital projection. The Hannah Montana concert movie will be the next 3d film playing at this theater, but not U23D.

this coming spring the classics will return, I found it out via the website….recently i went to this theater attending a showing of National Treasure: Book of Secrets in the DLP auditorium, which is in theater #9. The presentation was flawless, although I recommend sitting back for maximum clarity. The projection was provided by Technicolor Digital, which is the same company that will install more clearview cinemas other than this one and parsippany with the same equipment. BTW, are the screens capable of projecting 4k?

>> what happened to the classics program at this theater? <<

I saw Scarface over the summer during one of the “classics” showings… I think its a summer-only thing.

just checked the website for succasunna, and beowulf was still showing in 3d. My bad. parsippany will still play beowulf in 3d while succasunna plays THe Golden Compass on the DLP screen in plain old 2d.

what happened to the classics program at this theater? Will it return? Since the program was gone, attendance is not what it used to be since the AMC in Rockaway opened.

Just went to this theater to see Fred Claus on Friday night, and the place was not that packed!!! Seems like the lack of a 3d showing of Beowulf was to blame, as the film is being shown only in 2d. I went to theater 5, the largest of the 10 screens, and the seats are more comfortable than the last time I was there nearly two years ago. Sound is still Dolby Digital EX, and projection is still decent with the digital preshow. The prices, though, were stupid. Tickets went up to $10.25, and the Super Combo is a dollar and a half more than it was nearly two years ago. Plus they use real popcorn instead of the kernelless popcorn that AMC uses. The acoustics are not on par with Rockaway 16, with sound still bleeding into the other theater.

On October 19th, Jack Skellington returns to Succasunna, this time in Disney Digital 3D as The Nightmare Before Xmas 3D plays for the 1st time in Succasunna as well as Parsippany. Now that this theater finally got the DLP needed to show the movie, I don’t need to drive far to Elizabeth to see it again in 3D!!! The next movie to be shown in this format will be Beowulf, which will be fun to watch. Too bad the AMC in Rockaway will not show this one, instead they’ll show another horror movie, 30 Days of Night, which is not for the faint of heart!!!

Just went to this theater for the first time in a few months to see “Chuck and Larry” in theater #1, and boy, they changed the preshow to digital from film to save time and money. The slide show is pretty cool, too. It’s much sharper and it’s mostly Cablevision with a touch of Verizon (cellphones, thankfully) in it. The crowd was half full, the sound and projection were top-notch. Too bad the parking is smaller than the rival AMC in Rockaway or its sister theater, the Parsippany 12-plex. Unlke AMC, Clearview cuts out the green bands before each trailer to seam each preview into each other, which is a strange move indeed. After the movie was over, me and my SCARC group left as the rains came in that Friday night, which was more exciting than the movie!!!

I saw some movies in the new wing in those two theaters, which have excellent projection and great surround sound. BTW, which theater has the DLP projector in Succasunna? I would love to see a movie in that format there!!!

I actually remember both renovations…. barely remember when the opening was on the side of the building and it was a 4-plex.

Then in the early 1990’s with the expansion (the addition of the 2 upstairs theaters) and now with the “mirror image” wing on the other side.

odd, I’ve been to Cinema 10 many times since the newest renovation and never saw a movie in thew new wing.

I MUST be old! I saw “Young Frankenstein” there in the 70’s and “The Year of Living Dangerously” and “An Officier and a Gentleman” there in the early eighties… and believe me, it needed remodeling at the time… Showing the films over at Shoprite might been comparable…

Too bad Spidey 3 isn’t showing in DLP in Succasunna since Meet the Robinsons is still playing in the digital auditorium (which I guess is located in the same screen where the RWC system was installed), letting the webslinger play only in good old 35mm film.

Went to see “Blades of Glory” (which shoeshoe 14 saw exactly a month ago) in theater #7 (the same auditorium where I saw the X-Men’s third adventure), and it was not packed since I went on opening day of that new Spiderman movie, which has broken records. This theater still does well, even with a much smaller parking space than that of Parsippany or the larger Rockaway theater owned by AMC, which is now a public company as opposed to what the parent company of Clearview is becoming (privately owned by the Dolans). Spider-Man 3 is currently playing on three screens (the large #5 as well as the two new auditoriums, #9 and #10, all of which were sold out when Spiderman 3 opened yesterday), which makes up for 30% of the screen count at this theater.

Sorry moderators, I’m so sick of these questions. Why don’t you call up HQ or the theatre and ask them!!!

How long will “Meet the Robinsons” play in 3-D in Succasunna? And how does Digital 3-D do at a small theater like Succasunna, and which screen number is it on? Must be one of the new ones they constructed. What about the old movies (Classics)?

Justin…no on Rockaway and digital 3-D. In addition to the two venues you cited, the other Clearview venues showing “Meet The Robinsons in digital 3-D are the MIDDLEBROOK 10 in Ocean Township, NJ and the ZIEGFELD in Manhattan and CENTRAL PLAZA in Yonkers, NY.

First time since 1994 that I’ve seen a movie here. Saw “Blades of Glory” here yesterday. I love the new shape of the building. The centerpiece of the angle is blue and is a faux Art Deco. Auditorium #10 was room, comfy seats and high ceilings with lit up aisles. My father was extremely pissed about the “senior” discount was $7.50 for a matinee. I would’ve been too. I miss the old Cinema 10 because it was all red brick with white detail and the box office was outside. I miss the old carpet and running up the side stairs to the balcony. It’s not the same, but it looks nice anyway.

Great news!!! Digital projection will come to Succasunna in the form of Disney Digital 3D (aka Real D), when “Meet the Robinsons” comes out on March 30th. I hope they keep the digital projection system so that future movies can be shown in the regular 2d format. Parsippany will also get this format, too. Don’t know if the larger Rockaway theater will show this movie in 3d, but we’ll wait and see!!!

Went back to this theater with a group of young adults from the SCARC “Yacht Club” program (designed for young adults 18+ to go on trips like this one) after going to several Rockaway showings and the difference is huge. The projection and sound were excellent, there were no pre-show ads (maybe Clearview is getting ready to roll out the digital pre-show after that huge extension with Screenvision), and the seating remained the same the last time I visited there. Clearview is doing a good job for their moviegoing program. Rather than just get points off of tickets, I can get points off buying concessions, too. Plus tickets here are a bit cheaper than AMC’s, and they have a classics program. After the monstrosity that was AMC Rockaway 16, Succasunna is still alive.

Coming this march at the cinema…“Close Encounters of the Third Kind”…why don’t they show something like a “Star Wars”, a “Matrix”, or an “E.T.”? BTW, how does this film series at Succasunna compare to the Ziegfeld one?

Did anyone go see “Raiders of the Lost Ark” at the cinema this weekend? How was the print and sound?
