She was wrong about the Murkens location though. That wasn’t were the Big Daddy’s appliance store is, instead, it was the Chinese Restaurant to it’s left.

Yes. She mentions Murken’s ice cream parlor on Myrtle just east of Forest as well as Koletty’s, and Putnam continuing past Cypress to Myrtle instead of being a pedestrian mall as it was before 1983.

She knew and remembered enough to zoom in on the words ‘MADISON THEATRE’ on the western wall of the building.

She’s posted about ten other Ridgewood videos in You Tube and calls herself “rgdwd327”, implying she remembers the 11227 and 11237 zip[ codes.

I remember that Arthur Treatures too. But she remembered a lot of stuff before my time too.

Yes, Chris, the lady who posted these Ridgewood tour videos is older than Monica but younger than me. She remembers the Fish N Chips at Myrtle and Palmetto 1979-81 where Koletty’s ice cream parlor used to be and says she was a “kid” then. I was age 24-26 then.

Thanks for letting me know, Chris.

Whoever it is is older than Monica I think. She remembers things like Egg creams in drug stores, based on some of her other great video tours. Peter, I added one to the Madison Theater too, I don’t know if you still get updates from a lot of the theaters you used to comment in, as you would have had to make a comment in any of them within the last year to still get the update emails.

I am unsure who recorded this footage. It could be Monica.

Yeah, Mike, it’s good. I’m going to read and annotate it on the way home this evening.

I walked by the Ridgewood Theatre at 11 this morning (March 1 2010 after buying socks at Carl’s Army and Navy Store) and saw no change since my last visit on 22 January 2010.

Thank you, John for your informative update. With unanimous support from all people who provided testimony to the Commissioners, political support, owner support, and given the theater’s extensive history, I am confident it will be an easy pass.

I just checked the City Planning Commission’s web page and saw that, at its February 22 review meeting, it decided to schedule the Ridgewood’s landmarks designation for a vote. This action should probably occur rather soon. Given the lack of any emerging opposition, a positive vote is clearly expected.

Then it’s off to the City Council, and another probable approval.

Glad to provide news of these very positive developments.

Thanks, John D. I expect to walk by the Ridgewood Theatre this coming Friday morning, and will report here as usual after I have done so.

I was able to walk by the Ridgewood earlier today. Nothing has changed, and no one was available to discuss matters, though one of the interior doors remains open.

While the City Planning Commission has yet to schedule a public hearing on the Ridgewood’s landmark designation, this should occur soon, since its review is time limited. Hopefully, something will occur soon on both the designation and redevepment fronts.

You’re welcome, Micahel. My pleasure. I am sorry I was not at the hearing at the Municipal Building on January 12th as I said I would be. That day was in between two dr. appts. and I could not afford to be away from work that Tuesday morning.

Thanks Michael for posting the designation report. It really is worth a read and provides a strong justification for the designation.

Now on to see what actually occurs here!

Thanks, Mike.

I walked past the Ridgewood Theatre this morning at aboout 11:30 a.m.

I saw no change since I was last there six weeks ago on the morning of Friday December 11th 2009.
