I thought the theatre would reopen in November of this year; when will the theatre close for renovations? I can’t wait to check out the new and improved succasunna theatre since I would go to the more popular Parsipppany theatre (which is huge).
The first time I went to this theatre to see “Wedding Crashers” (which was shown in Theatre 3, a small theatre with Dolby Stereo surround sound), it was packed and the crowd was laughing. The picture was pretty good, but the lobby was humongous and the parking lot is pretty big. It’s a pretty convienient location to go to when the nearby Succasunna theatre closes for renovations. The lobby looks like something out of a Regal Cinema with large widescreen TVs showing previews. THere is also a large arcade room as well.
I went to see Must Love dogs in theatre 6, and although the auditorium had surround sound, the movie and the ads and trailers wasn’t in surround sound. The picture was OK. The movie ran a little late (previews included). But I got a freebie upon buying the tickets, a promotional CD for Old Navy’s back to school line-up. Maybe this is a promotion to get people back into the theatre during this slow and downtrend year? Most moviegoers at this theatre are kids and their families, and the two movies that are popular are Charlie and the CHocolate Factory and March of the Penguins. The latter movie is playing in one of the upper auditoriums, so I"ll wait for the dvd. As for the construction that’s going on by the cinema, are they building something? I would like to know, since that might be an extension of the theatre when it re-opens in the fall after a brief closing in October (according to a news release on Clearview’s website). I hope the revamped Succasunna Cinema will be better than its old self.
I think the Worldwide Cinemas became the Loews Cineplex Worldwide cinemas before closing down in the late ‘90s. The closest theatre near me that has the Cineplex Odeon name is the Route 4 Tenplex in Paramus (advertised as CO Route 4 Tenplex and Triplex); although several CO theatres (like the Menlo Park Mall theatre) changed to the Loews name. Once the AMC deal is done, expect the Loews name to go the way of the dinosaur!
Even after devastating attacks like this, people will go see movies under heightened security in London (with high ticket prices) to forget all the horrors of what happened yesterday.
Just went to see “War of the Worlds” with my pal Jessica at this theater; noticed some construction near the building. The movie was at one of the digital audio auditoriums (theatre #1). I went there once before when I saw “Stuart Little 2”. The picture and sound were the best of all the auditoriums. I guess it was Dolby Digital sound in the auditiroum with 200 seats?

That’s a lot of theatres! Among all those theatres, which one is still the most popular? I go to Succasunna a lot! Now that the new movie theatre in Rockaway will open soon, everybody will check a movie at the theatre (despite a downward trend at the box office).
Is it the most popular of all the auditoriums? I’ve seen the biggest and smallest movies at that theatre in the multiplex (last one was “mr.and Mrs. Smith” and maybe “War of the Worlds” will play in there). Does this theatre have dolby digital surround ex (there are back speakers in addition to the side speakers and front) as well as dts-es?
And for good reason. People like to watch their movies like their at a baseball game. In Warren County, both Pohatcong and Mansfield have some stadium seating. Morris County will have stadium seating when the new Rockaway megaplex opens next spring. Bergen County has only one, which is the Edgewater Multiplex Cinemas. Hudson County has the only first-run multiplex with stadium seating, and it’s a new one: South Cove Cinemas in Bayonne. But none could match the popularity and hype of Clifton COmmons. Many local celebrities (including Paris Hilton and most of the cast of The Sopranos) and HBO film review segments happen at this giant theatre, which I tried to get a job back while I was in high school. Too bad, they didn’t let me in, although I went to the manager’s desk, which is cool. They even have a large party room and decent bathrooms.
The last film my parents went to see was “True Lies”, and for good reason. During the film, the projector broke, causing many people to leave the theatre. When the movie came out on video, they saw the full film.
I recommend most moviegoers go with the Clearview Allwood Cinema as the cheap choice in Clifton compared with the busy Clifton movie theatre as well as the cheap secaucus theatres located down the road on Route 3 rather than the alternate Loews Wayne. But with the AMC/Loews deal, it could raise ticket prices for all of those theatres or maybe even shut down the older ones! :(
Now with the Loews/AMC merger complete by the time the new multiplex opens, it could bring the AMC brand name back to Rockaway with THX sound, stadium seating, and other cool stuff.
WHen I used to go to this theatre before Clifton Commons completely lured moviegoers away from the small theatre, it had one of the best-looking auditoriums in Northern NJ (the middle theatre with DTS surround sound and lots of seats) that I guess still remains intact even with adding two additional theatres. A lot of young people worked at this theatre. I was sad to hear the news that it closed. Read an article in the NEw York TImes by Debra Gallant describing her experience at that theatre many years ago. Hopefully, they will reopen the theatre soon.
Good for George Lucas, bad for the cinema companies. BTW, with the Loews/AMC merger, it will install more THX-certified auditoriums in all of its theatre. THey should do it at the Wayne and the new Rockaway theatre that will open in 2006.
I went to this theatre when I used to live in Clifton to see “Life is Beautiful” since it didn’t play in Clifton or Wayne, and it was a decent experience. So-so sound, good picture, and fresh popcorn. I only went there once, when independent films were only playing at theatres like the Clairidge. Nowadays, you can see them at your local multiplex and on DVD, where most of the revenue is right now in an era where box office is down and DVD sales are up! Yet the Clairidge is still open and plays an eclectic mix of films, some of which are on two or three screens (ala the much bigger multiplexes!).
The last time I went to an AMC theatre was the former Rockaway movie theatre that’s now a best buy. I only saw one movie there, Exit Wounds, and the sound and picture were pretty good as well as the seats. Too bad it closed. Now that the new AMC/Loews Rockaway theatre is coming, it better be good. Compared to the Loews, it wasn’t that crowded. As for the deal, they should lower Loews' prices since their outrageously more expensive ($9.50+ for prime time tickets) than other chains in my neck of the woods.
Some people might confuse the AMC brand with the AMC movie channel or the old AMC car company, but the acquisition of Loews will make them the name for big-screen entertainment. Imagine the widespread installation of THX in all their theatres, since some of those AMC theatres were General Cinemas, including Clifton Commons.
