The sinkhole is in the center of the concession area in the area where the attendants would have served you and where all the storage cabinets in the middle area was.
Just finished watching Interstellar on fx and it brought back a flood of memories when I saw this movie here in 70MM. I could still picture myself and my wife sitting there with the awesome bright picture and amazing audio.
40 years ago today this theatre reopened as a General Cinema with Rollercoaster in sensurround. It had closed in early January 1977 as a Walter Reade Theatre. I remember putting the titles up on the marquee early in the morning as our marquee letters had just arrived the day before.
Small Theatres. At the Amboys Multiplex where I worked for 21 years, we had theatres that seated 265 each AFTER they were split in half. How times have changed.
It also premiered the same day at the General Cinema Menlo Park Twin in Edison NJ. Lines at that theatre stretched all the way down Lafayette Ave to Roosevelt Park. I know this because I soon would be working there.
Coate, I was a projectionist for NA in NJ at the Amboys Multiplex for 21 years. If they followed the pattern of splits/additions like they did at ours, then it was probably every two years. Ours opened as a 6 in 79. 2 were added in 81. 2 more in 83. 2 more in 85, and 2 were split in 87 to get us to 14.
A few weeks ago there were 2 huge genie lifts parked outside the building. I was thinking maybe they were taking molds of the ceiling dome to use in the new building. There are also a few holes cut into the roof. I hope construction starts soon on the new building.
Mr_Film, those were the days. The drive ins and dollar houses always had the double features with the main feature run twice. I remember my father who was secretary of IATSE local 379 had to see someone at one of the drive ins, and they were showing “Woodstock” and “Prudence and the Pill” together, and “Woodstock” was shown twice.
Cinema 3 heading toward 2
This looks to be down by cinema 3 – 4 area
Left many butts in that ashtray
Film reel storage bins.
DTS stereo disk
Looking toward projector 8

I do. Those snipes really took a beating. Theatre kinda sucked as a 5 plex
I keep saying a nice 3 or 4 screen drive-in would be a big hit on this site. It once was a huge drive-in.
I highly doubt after 12 years that this place will ever reopen. I was a projectionist here from 1984 till 2005.
I started there as a part time projectionist during the run of this movie.
I ran both of those movies there.

I know this guy. But seriously, Ive known him since the early 80’s. I ran that equipment in the Rahway Theatre in the 90’s and 2000’s.

Coate, Ive seen many of your posts. I’m sorry I couldn’t provide exact dates. You do a great service to all of us CT readers.

Yes they sure did ruin all the Wildwood theatres. They ruin everything they touch.
HowardBHass, I’m sure it was DCP. I wasn’t there, I was working, but given that 35mm seems like a curse these days, I’m sure it was digital.

My wife does day work on
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and is a wardrobe attendant on Broadway Bandstand at the Bernard Jacobs.
According to news reports there was a fatal shooting at this theatre last night
