It’s amazing to me how these theatre organs disappear and then can’t be find/located so they can be returned to their rightful spot in a restored theatre. :–(

Sam_e: I sure agree with your FLW/Larkin accessment! Buffalo will NEVER live down what happened to that Larkin Administrative Building. BTW, are you aware of the annual Larkin Expo? A friend of mine, Jerome Puma is very involved with that event each year so if you want additional information I can provide it for you via Jerry. Also, through eBay last year I purchased a Larkin cold creme jar (no lid though) that I treasure and have colorful Lake Erie beach glass in it now.

Elvis Sighting…..In the 50’s Elvis appeared at the Carolina Theatre in Charlotte NC and just before he died I saw Elvis, in concert, at the former West Palm Beach Auditorium in West Palm Beach FL. It’s an experience I will NEVER forget!

Chris: Keep us all posted on what develops with your investigative research in regards to the King of Rock and Roll.

I am very good friends with the couple who started Claddagh and communicate with them quite often so will let them know of the recent New Angola Theatre Cinema Treasures posts.

Yes, another week of tryouts at the Orpheum! I thought the 4th season was going to literally crash and burn when Simon and Paula got into a fight over that one group of male singers! Oh well, at least we’re all getting to see the beautifully restored Orpheum, but believe the organ may have been removed as I can’t seem to spot it when the camera shows the stage and the first row of seats.

I sure hope all the ‘players’ in this saga come together and make this work! St. Charles is too quaint a town to NOT have a theatre!

Chris: I see on your profile that you just joined this cinema website….TODAY! So welcome and may you receive as much enjoyment from becoming a Cinema Treasures member as I have since joining in late November ‘04.

Years ago my husband and I visited the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland Ohio and was looking forward to the King of Rock and Roll display, but the final date for that showing was prior to my arrival so didn’t get to see it. I was with several others who were in my age range and we all left thinking there was much more ‘rock’ than ‘roll’ represented at the Hall of Fame!

Chris: This theatre website never seems to amaze me as the posts are most interesting and informative such as yours! Good luck with your Presley appearances investigation. BTW, did you ever hear that Elvis had a son? If you go to www.elvisjr.com you can come to your own conclusion(s)then share your thoughts if you wish to do so. Thanks. I was told that when filming Blue Hawaii he met a young lady who worked on the set and that she is deceased now.

There are many theatres listed under Charlotte NC so if anyone can tell me about a theatre that I spotted in the NoDa section of the city, thanks. I was trying to find someone’s home near Matheson and North Davidson when I spotted a small theatre in that part of town, but didn’t have time to go around the block and check it out!

I read that it utilized rear-screen projection which is interesting as I guess that was a rare feature. My husband’s hometown theatre in PA utilized this projection. When I asked him about his theatre memories while growing up as a young boy that was the first thing he mentioned!

Recently while traveling in the NoDa section of Charlotte along North Davidson I spotted a theatre that appeared to still be a theatre, but not sure so can anyone give me additional information? I don’t recall the name of the street where the theatre was located in that area as I didn’t go around the block to get a second look and should have, but will return soon.

It’s too bad the old marquee and ticket window can’t be returned to this ‘performance space’.

Robby: I believe that I may have asked you this before, but have you or do you have any interest in restoring the Carolina Theatre? Recently I’ve met with Charlie Clayton and others, but know that their work has been an uphill battle for the past 10 years!

I plan to visit this theatre this summer as it has 2 similar theatre distinctions to my former hometown theatre in Westfield NY….art deco and the name….Grand! The 330 seats are less than were in mine. So many of these small town theatres are in need of being saved because in many cases the residents of these towns have many miles to travel to see a movie and most older folks would enjoy having one in their ‘own backyard’! In the case of my husband’s hometown that theatre is still there, but is being used for a youth center (hope still flames for that theatre to return) and in my case the small town Grand Theatre was foolishly demolished! :–(

Love those atmospheric theatres and especially the ones that have been restored and NOT demolished! Was the former Loew’s in Atlanta an atmospheric and am I correct when reading that the Loew’s in Richmond does not show movies anymore since it’s been changed to a Performing Arts Center?

Patsy commented about Alabama Theatre on Feb 9, 2005 at 3:13 pm

Christian: Thanks for this theatre description as it really sounds like a wonderful place to visit though it isn’t a theatre anymore. I’ve informed my Houston friend in case he hasn’t been there!

Patsy commented about Alabama Theatre on Feb 9, 2005 at 3:52 am

And it sounds like even though it has been changed into a bookstore the theatre exterior and interior ‘look and feel’ are still there!

This art deco bookstore/former theatre would be fascinating to see so will have to ask my Houston friends to go if they haven’t yet!

fnydude: Sounds very familiar here in Charlotte as well! Recently purchased a book about the city and so many historical buildings have been demolished that were so very beautiful!
