DeAngelis Apprentice: So exciting to read your comment relating to Michael DeAngelis…..thank you for sharing your memories with us. An earlier post from another CT member talked about the many blueprints…hope to learn more about all of the man’s blueprints. His grandson, Mark has posted on CT in the past. Please email me at
Thank you for this information about the Lake….wish it were still with us. As quaint a town as Canandaigua is it should have a quaint and orginal theatre like it once had!
Amazing to see the almost immediate posts on CT and this theatre. Viewed the auditorium photos by former and sorely missed CT member and it brought tears to my eyes.
I just rec’d a THSA (Theatre Historical Society of America) email telling me that this theatre will premiere a short story movie entitled Palace on May 5th.
Sorry to read “was limited by a lack of funds and public support” as it is important to “make civic use of this beautiful piece of Mount Morris history”.
When theatres like the Dayton came down in the 70’s for most likely Urban Renewal didn’t the folks of these communities ever think they would need or want a place to show movies, plays and musicals? They had this theatre and then let it be demolished for “an empty lot used for parking”.
Thanks to Ken Roe in the UK he directed my steps to the Loews Dayton Theatre only to read that this theatre is gone and that “the site remains an empty lot used for parking”. So sad and so shameful that Dayton no longer has this treasured cinema!
This theater was mentioned and featured on the Weather Channel this evening, March 25, 2013 re: the flood of 1913. In the still b/w photo one could see the marquee that read DAYTON. Does anyone have historical information regarding this theatre in addition to the information already provided to CT? Thanks.
And I wonder who the 2 men are in the photo as they look at the destroyed stage. I hope that at the time they wondered “if” they were doing the right thing! I can anwer that question now in one simple word……NO!
The Plaza demo photo is hard to view though glad to see this once great theatre is included on CT. I have recently learned that the site is now home to an insurance company’s headquarters. Do hope an historical plaque is placed at the location so nobody will ever forget what was once there for theatre and movie goers. And I sincerely hope that there were some residents of Schenectady who opposed the demolition and fought to keep this theatre standing for future generations. Sadly, someone with pen in hand presented the RKO with its final blow and existence.
TexasBob: I have Google Earth on my Smart Phone, but still learning my way around the phone so send me the Google photo of that area via my email () Thanks.
Would still like to see photos! If the structure still standing or was it demolished? I recall the town being neare the St. Lawrence Seaway. Our hotel was right in front of it and the next morning a huge freighter came by the hotel property. The owner was a chef and cooked dinner for the guests in the hotel restaurant.
Thanks gentlemen for your informative comments. I have been in contact with the grandson of Michael De Angelis. He has posted on the Stage Theatre CT link and has provided his email address there!
Perhaps some exist…..good luck!
Welcome GreenMan415…..it is great to read another DeAngelis family related post.

Did not mention the sorely missed CT member…Lost Memory. May our prayers be with the people effected by this latest monster storm.

Anyone in the Carlisle PA area should see this film.

Hope to see this Warner in person this summer!
Joe: Great post! American Seating Company provided seats for many theatres including my hometown theatre!

Yes, send the link to Ross as he would love to see it. And thanks for listing me twice though there is only one of me! Have a great day!

Do wish former resident..Lou Dobbs would invest in his hometown and theatre.
Is the atmospheric feature still intact?
Is there an update on this theatre and its mighty Wurlitzer? Great 1930 photo with the blade marquee!
TexasBob: Interesting commentary that ends with “those landmarks are gone with the wind”.
