DuPage Theater

The gas station next to the theatre was named “Norman Gas for Less.” The proprieter was a Texan named Rex. He also did auto repair and his mechanics were named George and Larry. There was also a candy store on Parkside called The Yum-Yum Tree.

The very first 3d movie I watched was at the duper.It was the “house of wax”.It was a very scary movie in those days.We walked/ran home after the end of the movies.There were hardly any street lights in those days.It was a very scary walk /run home.I know that I have a pair of those 3d glasses
that the theatre owner provided.Somewhere.
Those old movie projectors were still in the theatre.I saw them there not to long ago. At least Big Idea Corp.
didn’t pitch them when they started to restore the theatre.

Sure. I remember the filling station along side Parkside.I used to work there.It was not part of the theatre and shoppes.Much later it became a small used car lot.
The assistant principal of York High School in Elmhurst also worked there
part time.That was a while ago.
I remember the real estate office on the Parkside shoppes.The barber shop on the Main St.side of the theatre and shoppes.Art and Vi’s restaurant on the corner of the theatre and shoppes.

Robert.The last operator/owner of the theatre just bastardized the theatre.He just poured concrete down the 2 main isles to make ramps.Then painted the concrete.He even poured concrete right on top of carpeting.
In an attempt to save some of the restoration costs,a team of volunteers broke and removed all of that concrete.There were piles and piles of concrete that were removed.

I remember the days when going to the Dupage Theatre you actually got to see two full length movies.In between movies there were really great live acts.The Theatre was always packed on Friday and Saturday nights.Parking was always hard to find.People sometimes had to park a long way from the theatre.I always wondered why there was no balcony.That would have made it really great.
It would be great if this theatre could be restored to it’s original beauty and charm.

Unfortunately, you only admitted it because you got caught in your lies in an earlier post. You discuss between dude and supporter about meeting for lunch as usual. In a later post you ask who the “Dude” is….How embarrassing for you. Here are the tell-tale posts:

Answer the question – WHERE DOES THE $$ COME FROM?

Private donations? No! TIF dollars are not an endless supply of free money from benefactors who support art. It is TAX INCREMENT FINANCING and it is to be used in an fiscally appropriate manner to promote development of tax generating districts. It is NOT meant to be the primary source of funds to restore a dilapidated theatre whose future as a profitable venue is bleak at best! Some TIF for a new theatre development, maybe. 70-80% – NO!! Raise your own stinkin money or go away. BTW- just because something is not on your tax bill does NOT mean it is not tax dollars, quit trying to snow people.

I love how NOW you and your alter egos are supposedly writing letters to corporate America for help. Where was this push for private dollars in the last 5 years? You never bothered because you expected and DEMANDED this project be paid for with our TIF dollars! Guess again.

Thanks for your observations.No tax dollars were ever planned for the restoration of this theatre.We never wanted or planned to restore and operate the theatre with taxpayer money.
