how many seats does the imax screen at rockaway hold, and is it bigger than the regular screens at the complex? i’m going to see avatar in that format in a few weeks and will have a report on the movie.

I used to go to a THX certified screen for one movie, Dinosaur, and the movie wasn’t playing in Dolby Digital and was quiet Dolby Stereo. This was in Clifton Commons during its early years. Wonder if AMC still has those two THX signs up on those screens as well as in Bridgewater Commons. Those screens didn’t show the THX trailer, which kinda sucks even though I can watch them online and on DVDs.

Recently AMC offered Pizzeria Uno at several locations with the tagline “Hasta La Vista Hunger”. I got a coupon for that offer, which thankfull expired…..who wants to eat big food during a 2 hour movie? I remember when AMC’s Clifton Commons, as General CInema, used to have cookies and coffee from Starbucks, but since AMC took over, it’s gone. Same could be said for east hanover and its barren food counter between the entraces to the two wings of the theater that have six screens each.

Don’t forget movies based on graphic novels start to become popular, as was the case with 300.

No morning showtimes for Avatar Imax 3-D next week…which stinks. I guess I’ll have to see the digital 3-D version with my dad and save money and see a flat version of the movie rather than a blurry scope version of the film in 2d.

Speaking of RealD, will AMC install more digital 3-D at this building to satisfy those who can’t get tickets to the digital imax? If Avatar has to succeed then it will do really well in both 3-D and Imax 3-D. I read that Imax wants a long run for this movie, since the next major Imax movie is Alice in Wonderland, which comes out in March. Usually a new release is given a four week run, but for a 3D movie like James Cameron’s $300 million sci-fi epic, the stakes are higher.

I can’t wait to see “Avatar” in IMAX 3D. Maybe I’ll see a morning show for cheap thrills or if its sold out, go for the Real D experience.

The upside is that amc starts the film on time after the preshow is over and the looping music starts to play. Clearview’s screenvision has a sprint logo card that flashes until the film is loaded (or if its a digital presentation, a few mintutes longer).

and a mic. That’s why film has those codes on to protect pirates from recording movies so that they won’t reach youtube and the internet.

Seems that the Disney movie is doing well at the box office, although ticket prices are higher than any Disney film that premiered in big cities before spreading wide. Is Avatar going to play here? That should do better than the Disney movie once the Disney movie expands nationwide.

4900 seats? that’s quite a lot for an amc theater even more than the old tenplex or triplex.

have you tried the liemax at rockaway or jersey gardens? I think i’ll skip them and go see the real thing at palisades center, which is easier to get to than sitting in new york traffic coming to the big city (both empire and Lincoln Square). I never been to the Empire theater but I usually see the front of it while driving down Times Square.
